date on bottom of mb block?

i have just had the sump off my mb engine,it seems to have an assembly date stamp of 5-9-40 at the rear bottom of the block,could this be correct ? thanks.

It could be. If it is you may have an MA block Is there a serial number stamped into the oval pad behind the oil filter? Do you have pictures that you can post?

hello,oval pad has mb 601708,the block is in a 42 scripted ford i have.

I think you will find the last digit a 5 instead of a 0.

you get the full picture by reducing your magnification to 50%,but it needs to right.

That serial number would be from May 1945

hi,thats correct,date on bottom of block/sump rear corner is in fact 5-9-45,looked like a 0,but is a 5,part of the 5,the top half was never stamped out hard enough.
