Might still do the pressure washer route to try and remove the non OD paint and expose the numbers....but nothing more invasive.

What a jeep! I noticed it has a keyed ignition though. That was probley a common post war swap for the ignition switched jeeps. Amazing you found part of the tool kit too!

A couple of questions:

In tank fuel filter???? I see an aftermaket one at the fuel pump.....

Oil can bracket on Firewall?? i can't make it out...

Good chance you have an original matching motor also. The motor serial number is stamped behind the oil filter on a raised oval machined pad.
