British Top modifications!?

My British Airborne Radio Jeep did have this canvas top with it... ???



But the Jeep did not have any top and brackets in the war....









Did many British AB Jeeps not have their top/bows and brackets?

Most airborne jeeps lost their tops, bows and mounts -(and windscreens) on operations the idea was to loose the weight for transport in the glider

These items may have been brought up later by the second echelon - but never say never.......

The "Humber" sidescreens were somewhat different to the ones fitted to your jeep. See

The fittings bows and top were probably added when the jeep was disposed of by the Army or when it was refurbished for private sale

by the way - there's something wrong with those top bows. When stowed flat, they should both line up and lie around the edge of the body tub.....

Your sidescreens do look like Humber sidescreens that have been amended at some time in their history.
Lack of topbows and brackets and screens depended on what role the Jeep was designed for. A lot of airborne Jeeps still kept them if their role permitted it. There are too many exceptions to the rule, shown in photos, to say for definite what is the norm.

I have taken away the brackets/top bows and welded the holes for the small canvas fastners.
I´m working on the body and replace som rusted out places with new panels.
There are not som mutch holes in this Jeep...
Did find out that it did have M38 seats in it.
Did replace them with some MB seat i did have, will try to find out where i could have the footman loops for the Jerry cans on them!?
Where can i find some footmanloops for seats and the footman loops for bonnet/hood and top of dash. They are longer than the ordinary GPW/MB ones I do need 14 of them.

Do you still need the long footman loops?
I am going to the Militaria Meet next week at Malvern, and it is possible there may be some there.
Here is a photo of some I have - the top two are from my jeep, one is MB the other I think is GPW. The large one is one I believe the British used, and would probably be the one you are looking for.

Hello Rod!

Yes please!!! I do still need 12 footman loops for Hood/bonnet and cowl.
Please see if you can find any! They should be 2 and 1/8" in center of the screws.
