Postby Jon » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:49 pm

I need to get some original metal throttle and choke assemblies for my '44 GPW.
Please let me know if you have something I can use.

Thanks Dave, much appreciated.

With a little luck the reproduction ones will improve in the stamping area, currently the stamping is not yet 100% like the original.
Pic below. Original V Reproduction
The Choke one looks OK......

Reproduction CHOKE

Reproduction THROTTLE (Why can't they use the same "O" as in the CHOKE ???? And Fix the "ThroTTle"
If they did that, maybe they would sell a Squillion of them as ALL GPW's had the metal Throttle & Choke knobs.

I'll take a THROTTLE in any condition..........I may have to live with a repro CHOKE until I find an original of that one.

They made blank versions of the raised letter Throttle and Choke Cable during WWII which were intended as replacements, I used one of the them for years until I found an original raised letter Choke Cable for my MB. One of the dealers may have one squirreled away.

Jon,

I would send the seller a Question, he might send to Australia. I was wanting to bid on something and the seller said that overseas bidders should get in touch before bidding, I did and won the item :D
Jon, this guy is selling a lot of GPW stuff and getting top dollar for them. Like you said that you have a few good friends here in the UK :) but I guess that it is knowing you limit, as you get suckered in
Are you off to Corowa next week :?: It's a shame that I missed you in 2010, I would have liked to have meet you, nevermind we may catch up sometime.

Dave

How would someone lengthen the wire on one of the original cables. Have one of my originals that I have been saving until I could figure out or learn a good way of restoring the length of the wire.

Does one cut the original wire off at the end of the plunger and weld in a new one or does one just weld a longer length to the end of the existing wire
