Product Review: WW2 Impressions Boondockers

Postby AZ Jeff » Thu Mar 08, 2012 7:17 am

Received my WW2 Impressions reproduction USMC Boondockers yesterday... WOW. Superb quality and attention to detail. I have a pair of WPG Boondockers well used in The Pacific HBO series and there is no comparison in quality. I've had "NOS" WW2 boots before and when you handle the WW2 Impressions product you are seeing a very close replication of that 40s quality and weight. As they say, you get what you pay for.

I have a pair of M43 Buckle Boots and Low Boots from WWIIImpressions. Both are excellent repros, and have stood up to abuse very well. Wouldn't buy my boots anywhere else!

I have to agree. They also make a killer reproduction of the enlisted wool shirt - an exact match to an original in my collection.

Juan,

I broke them in last weekend -- the ole' Army garden-hose-in-the-boot saturation technique. Takes a few hours to walk off the water but they form nicely around the feet in the process.

I plan on wearing these hard. Thanks again.

My pleasure. Be sure to dub them up so they'll last a lifetime.

Kevin,

It's a form of waterproofing that's rubbed into the leather. You can still buy the original WW2 and KW stuff in small and large cans -- check e-Bay. Others use SNO-SEAL (I think that's the brand) available at outdoor supply shops. I would imagine that the WW2 Chemical Warfare Service (CWS) impregnate is the same as well (same consistency and function).

When applied it may darken the leather a bit (which is preferred by those that don't want their boots to look too new).

Yep, pulled out the 'short' boots last night. I need to do the water technique. The way I learned was fill your tub with hot water soak the boots, and then wear them until dry.

Interesting thread. For years I've always used Neatsfoot, Pecard shoe oil or Red Wing Boot oil - whatever we had on lying around. Have to try the SNO SEAL.

A good many older farmers in America's Dairyland discouraged the use of any shoe treatments. Believed oils would plug the pores, inhibit leather from breathing and cause smelly feet. ...

We will be selling Huberd's shoe grease very soon. Similar to dubbing. Should be applied to protect leather from mud and keep your feet dry.
