Im trying to perfect some plastic hubcaps right now. My first mold wasnt working so Im making a second one. They will fill a void and be an inexpensive substitute for steel. They are quit durable.

Before you pay big bucks to a machinist give me a week or two to see if I can get the bugs worked out. Im waiting on a better release agent in the mail. Right now my Silicone molds are sticking together and Im having to cut them apart with a razor blade so the cast part is not turning out like I would hope for.

Im going to try and pour from the backside not the front so I hope it will fill the mold better. Trying not to buy a vacuum chamber.

Keep us informed. I have been going through the process in my mind and started to gather some of the materials. Appears you may be a lot closer with a completed mold. Plastic or Fiberglass what ever the case may be its far better then having your Nuts Show

Couldn't you just made a nut from a hexagon steel bar, with a thread tap??

Yes, But I'm thinking the tap 3/4-24 is just as rare. From what I am hearing the 24 theards per inch was a requirement for many military contracts. I'm not sure if this is true but its what I heard.

Not hard to find. I have a set in the garage. North Bay Cutting Tools on EBAY have them but I did notice they dont carry a starting tap. The reason I mention them is they were really quick on shipping. I received the taps about 3 days later.

Hopefully these hubcaps will keep you from exposing yourself in public and getting kicked out of an MVPA convention

Just to keep things straight are you talking about the one on the far right or the 3rd one in from the right.??

The round spacer the washer and then the nut all 3 on the right side of the photo is what I need + one hub cap.

Keep us updated with the hub caps Craig, I also need a set of the same nuts that Rusty1340 is looking for, I've bought several from the net that say they have that thread and they don't fit, with postage and nuts I've probably spent $60 or so and still haven't got one, if you find one that fits please let me know, I can live without the spacer but a nut or 2 would be great, at the moment one side is held on with a nut and the other with the spacer.

Yes for sure Keep us in the loop on the hub caps. I did email North Bay and they have a Plug Tap 3/4 - 24 it has a slight taper. It looks like the route I will be taking. chrisnz if I get something going on theses nuts I will let you know.

For the fine thread nuts on the RHS, I've now ordered 10 with a supplier that requires that number as a min lot (it looks like I have sufficient commitment from others to consume the full 10 nuts with purchases of 2 each). Rusty, I have you down for 2 (see my other thread). Suggestion is that it will take around 20 days for the nuts to be sent to me. I can't gaurantee the nuts will have exactly the same thickness, but they will be close and serve the purpose well.

Craig, I had all the stuff and decided to give it a wril with Fiberglass. Its not working well around the Flange. I think the plastic is the way to go.. How are you making out on yours?

My order for the orginial style Hardware came yesterday. A little bit pricy But you can see the difference
One cost .82 Cents ea. the Other cost 6.85 ea. I will use the cheaper ones in the bottom where nobody can see them.
