Round Muffler Hanging Help

Postby hell-fire » Sun Jan 15, 2012 1:58 am

I have all I need to hang the round muffler except I cannot work out where everything goes & my manual is no help, does anyone have a diagram showing how it all goes together.

Thanks

Do you have the location of the bracket under the passenger seat? If not, I can give you the dimensions from my Dec 19th slat body, since its off the frame right now.

Let me know!

The rear mount is approximately 2.25" from the side of the body and 4.5" from the rear c-channel. My front mount had rusted away but the remains were about 15.5" from the side, (projected from father back, since the body angles at this location) and 21.25" from the rear c-channel. Given the adjustable muffler clamps and the flexible rubber mounts, I imagine there is a lot of flexibility.

Hope this helps!

Hell-Fire and philbrinson:

Could you post or send me a pic of how the front mount is attatched. After sandblasting my 12/23/41 tub had what I assumed was a shadow of where a mount was (circle A) I haven't found a clear was of how it is atatched.

In another thread Jim Kilbourne said a carraige bolt is used, so the only other hole that I could figure is what I have listed as "B", is it it on the part of the hat channel missing/not shown?

Please help

Thanks, Rick

Rick,

If you look a Tobys drawing on this thread the bolt Numbered 10 goes through the gussette, or cowl brace or what ever it is called, through the hat channel & then the exhaust mount......................That is if I have done it right.

the carriage bolt goes thru the front floor crossmember....about half way between the body to frame bolt and the cowl support to step panel bolt location...(not thru the cowl support, thats another bolt altogether)

so that your front muffler hanger parts are resting on the bottom of the front floor hat channel...

the rear hanger parts attach to the small square shaped 'u' profile bracket that has a threaded pressed in nut, located at the right rear of the front floor, underside, only a few inches from the side panel and floor riser seam.

shown in the posted picture of the floor but not labled...

Guys have any of you got the correct dimensions for the bolts and nuts that go through both round muffler clamps and the small cross pipe to muffler clamp bracket please as the ones that were supplied in my bracket kit are way too short......or are the brackets wrong in the kit...they go round the muffler body but the gap in clamps is i think excessive.

Regards

Lloyd
