CCKW open cab in dumpster, need parts?

Postby steven ellis » Fri Dec 30, 2011 10:46 pm

I was driving by and out of the corner of my eye a grill caught my eye. I will post some pictures what I need to know what it is and if anyone wants some parts off it before it goes to crusher. So far I salvaged the steering wheel, 3 data plates on dash, however I could not find the tag with DOD and stuff. Instrament cluster, small hardware off the outside of cab, maybe for canvas top? things still in it -seat frames are in very good shape, front fold down windshield frame, radiator head lamp buckets grill gard. Again, what is it, and if any parts are worth me getting for someone please let me know

It looks to me as an open cab CCKW or Studebaker. There are a lot of parts that ought to be saved.

CCKW, and that Steering wheel if not cracked to the point of unuseable is a valuable prize. Ign Switch and salvagable instruments plus Windshield Frame is nice to salvage.

Thanks guys, if anyone else has a comment, let me know. Here is the offer, I will try to get any part someone wants, things I have not taken off are windsheild frame, seat frames, trans hump cover, radiator-although a picture of one to make sure it is orginal would be nice, headlamps, grill and gards, the sides with louvers just under the hood look good.

Ben, the steering wheel has one very little crack/peel maybe1/2 inch not sure what they were seal with, stain/oil/varnish? but a light sand and the wood is good to go. Know anyone that needs one?

Go Grab the WHOLE darn THING! You can always scrap out that which is not worthwhile, but save it before it goes away! Maybe the frame is underneath...
And IIRC, the serial data plate is on the firewall above the transmission.

Small world......

I almost saved this truck for it's parts summer of '10 but the landowner refused to sell and wanted to auction it with all the other crap scattered about..... it was up in Anoka then.

Too many scrappers at the auction and things went too high for resto rescue but good price to buy and run to the recycler, doubling your money.

CCKW went for over 1K and the steering wheel is the best part....most other parts were scrap. Had a big azz winch on the back, probably what he wanted.

I even left a note saying I would pay him for the steering wheel/odd parts and remove them myself.

Sad to see it in a roll off.
