Aircraft spotlight.

Postby Sgt. Hancock » Wed Dec 28, 2011 4:26 am

I found a box at local supply store, and inside I found a spotlight of sorts. It has several lenses of different colors and has a pistol grip. It also has front and rear sights, like a pistol.
The label on the box reads; Lamp Assembly, Inter-Aircraft Control, Signal Light Air Corps Type C-3A, Spec. No. 94-32288-B, E. A. Laboratories Inc. Part No. 4060 24 Volts.
This assembly is in perfect condition and has the desiccant packs still inside. Has anyone ever seen one of these before? Sorry I cannot provide a photo, I don't have a digital camera.

I have one of those. Used to signal from ground to plane or plane to plane when getting in or flying in formation. Mine was manufactured by Grimes.

Brother has one we've tried to unload at Aberdeen show for several years, anywhere from $50 down to $25 with no takers. They were used (with the different lenses) to communicate differing messages, especially when commo is out between the plane and ground. The Tower would flash red, or steady Red to prevent a landing, then Green for all clear to land, etc. (Still do by FAA regs)

Fun info guys, thanks. I bought mine for $15.00 I think. I was thinking about removing the 24 volt light and installing a 12v light and using it as an in vehicle spotlight.

Thanks Oscar, you have inspired me to find a replacement 12v light bulb.

Should you want a good home for your spot light we could use it in our 1945 Lockheed PV-2D Harpoon. We have taken an old derelict air tanker and have her flying again. We are converting her back into a warbird with all of her military gear inside. Near the navigators position there is a bracket we have yet to make that held a C-3 signal light. Any chance of a donation or would you sell your light?

Here is a link to a forum thread about our Harpoon from the start to today:

Here are two before and after shots of the navigators position:
