One of those "FRIEND OF A FRIEND" told me things

Postby FrankenJeep » Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:30 am

Someone came over to do some work at my house and was looking at my jeep, and said "a friend" had a "military" jeep with an S-10 tranny. Claimed the guy did it because he already had a tranny for free, and for the gas mileage. My first reaction was PHOOEY, but then I've seen worse things done to our jeeps. Now I am not about to bastardize mine that way, but is this easily done? I'm just curious. I like mine the way its supposed to be.

I'm pretty sure Novak makes adaptors that can do that.

Interesting stuff. It does look like, tho, that the Novak adapter is for adapting the T-90 TO another engine rather than adapting the transmission to fit the existing configuration. I am not considering doing that, but it is all good for study. It would be interesting to see how such a 5-speed transmission would perform in a jeep, tho. I wouldn't be surprised if this hasn't been done after all. I DO know of a Model A Ford that had a 5-speed chevy tranny. Like the Jeep, they are geared low and experience high revs on the road. The additional ratios do slow the engine down, reducing the wear and tear. Then there are the Overdrive units which accomplish the same thing. I have a friend with an original '36 Ford V8 with a Columbia 2-speed axle. Now there's an interesting animal! He took me on a drive one day and demonstrated how he could "split-shift" it thru 6 forwards. Of course, you wouldn't do that on a regular basis! Cars (and Jeeps) are such FUN!

Yes that link is for an engine to tranny. I was just getting in to the site, they do other things with adaptors. I just felt if I said something I should at least find the site.
