Thanks Ian, not sure what to make of this. I thought they were originally black, however, who knows, if they were touching up the motor with a spraygun I expect otherr colours are likely.

If the generator was mounted and the engine was touched up, I'd expect some overspray, or at best an incomplete coat of paint. Ian, is this what you found?

figuring out the correct generator isn't the problem-its FINDING them that is the issue if you need a GEG 5001A-anyone have suggestions?

Look at every parts jeep you can find to include CJ stuff. It is uncommon, but not unheard of to get WWII parts through auto parts stores that require a core charge too. They send the cores to the rebuilder regardless of markings etc.

smurf....if you are trying to build a GEG-5001A, you do have a difficult quest ahead of you...

If I needed one....I would start by putting into my wallet the same kind of short list I have for identifying jeep wrenches...the casting numbers on a list and perhaps even a couple pics...

You know the Pulley is unique to the 5001...
The Drive Head is unique to the 5001....
The Commutator Head is also unique to the 5001....
The Armature is the same in 5001/5002....
The main case is the same in 5001/5002/5101

Since many of these components are INTERCHANGABLE with other models....I would have my list handy and buy ANY genny that had one of these components you need on it....eventually you will assemble several gennys with their CORRECT parts and probably have a couple 5002 and maybe a 5101 you can sell to someone who needs them.

Check with Ron....I know he sells gennys and I would imagine his rebuilder does just this same sorting when tearing them down....he might have one if you need it NOW.
