Turn Signal Problem

I'm having a problem getting the turn signals on my A2 to work. When I move the lever, the light on the switch box comes on but does not flash. The turn signal bulbs do not light. I checked the bulbs by wiring in a hot wire to the light assembly, and they work fine. I tried replacing the flasher, but still have the same problem.

One thing I noticed, in searching this forum, there appears to be a ground wire from the turn signal flasher connector that fits to one of the mounting bolts. Mine doesn't have such a wire, and does not appear that it ever did.

Any suggestions?

Looks as though you found the problem. You might try to disassemble the switch to see if there is any burnt residue, clean that off, might help as weel. If the ground doesn't.

though i admit i can't remember where i got this info, thus casting doubt on it's accuracy, i thought the control unit got it's grounding from direct contact with the steering column. remove it and clean off where it's attached with emery cloth.

hello

on the flasher unit is the wire C the ground wire
if you want to test the direction lights without the unit connect the A and B together (now the they must work no flash )
wire A is the pulse wire to the switch wire B the power wire to the flasher unit
is your light switch in the correct stand
i think your directional switch is not good
if your switch only connects the control light at the flasher unit and not the front or rear lights the amount of Amps you use is to low for the unit to works on

Grounding to the column is just for the light on the unit itself. That will have no affect on flashing. The flasher unit under the dash has to be grounded.

If you are using LED bulbs, it will not flash.

The ground on the steering column is for the horn. The horn has +24 volts to it all the time with the ignition switch on and the return path is thru the horn button to ground.

Kurt, we were talking about grounding the turn signal switch to the column but what you say also pertains since both take the same path to ground.

I understand what you were suggesting but the only thing in the turn sign control that needs a ground is the lamp so that it'll flash. Everything else is just routing for the output of the flasher unit to the lamps. I found some 24 volt white LEDs for the turn signal control but they're too bright at night.

Found where the ground wire was broken off. Will splice another wire to it and ground properly. Thanks, all!
