Boy, that truck is really gonna be a nice one. Wish I had the facilities to do that to mine. That M37 stove would really look good in the back of that unit  Billy

Here are some photos of door service, most of the # 8-32 door skin screw holes were "stripped out" after removing the original 70 year old hardware. I began by finding the weak/unserviceable screws, ground away the paint near the hole, welded the hole shut, used the grinder to make the weld "flat", re-installed the door skin and drilled new holes using the door skin as a template. Next, I tapped the holes to the previous size and re-installed the door skin and wouldn't you know it...murphy's law. After I re-installed the door panel two more holes stripped out! (after I put away the welder of course) The same will be repeated to the driver side door.

Were you able to find new screws? Those don't look old and rusty like most of them!

Yes, these Clutch head screws are new and were procured from Jim Carter truck parts. I looked high and low in my neck of the woods at all of the local sources I know of and was unsuccessful, I asked the personell at the "Industrial Hardware shops" I checked and no one could tell me a possible source. Somebody has to manufacture them like "Grattan" or a large nut/bolt manufacturer, but I have yet to discover a maker. It was like $25 bucks for 100 screws, and I have used aprox 1 1/2 bags so far. They come in a clear plastic bag with no Manufacturer marks on them.

Well, its an aproximately one year since I started this process, I was hoping to be farther along...oh well. I got most of the cab done, I just recently got my wiring harness from Vintage Wiring of Maine (looks great!) and still need to repair some stripped screw holes for the driver side door panel. It ain't perfect, but I feel I made decent progress. This Cab repair is the tedious work in my opinion, the faster work with quick gratification is the chassis...more nuts and bolts than finesse. Here are photos of the pass side kick post repair and Cab exterior after one year of tinkering.

As a rough figure, I carry out at least one full day of work per week, sneak in as much time as I can when the Mrs. is doing something and take small knick-knacks to work and clean them in the sandblaster...

so aprox. 520 hours of labor into the cab and related items. Alot of work, but well worth it!

I can't believe it has been a year. It seems like yesterday we pulled your cab from the frame.

Nice work, as always.

Regarding the amount of time it's taken you, you're light years ahead of me. I've been working on my truck for nearly twice as long as WWII lasted! And it's still not done!

Remember, it's a hobby, not a job. There's been many a day when I've been working on something that I thought would take an hour and it took eight instead. But when the sun sets and you've got a beer in your hand as you're checking out the progress ... well, you know the feeling.

Very nice looking project. I am restoring a Chevy as well. I have a couple of questions. My speedometer cable is 95" long. Jim Carter and others sell 75" & 85" ones but no 95" ones. How long was your cable? Do you know of a source for the rear axle bumpers? I have the plates, but the rubber is all gone.

Unfortunately I don't remember the length off the top of my head, next time I am over by the truck I'll measure it. As an alternate cotengency plan you could have one made. I helped a buddy some time ago by having one made at a local Speedo/insrument shop...the only downfall was that it did not have the original "Metal" courregated steel covering, it was a vinyl covered steel. They cut the replacement to length using the old one as a sample. While it is not exact, it will still function as expected. If my memory serves me correctly it was like $30-40 bucks.

As for the Bumpers...I haven't went on Safari for that animal yet. I would try to check with local truck shops for an item like that they may have some leads on that type of item. Possibly check with "Rubber" vendors that could Vulcanize rubber to the original set and shape it with a custom mold of sorts..

I got the cab rubber items from "Jim Carter" truck parts and "The Filling Station". I wasn't able to get all items from one singular source, sometimes one source cheaper than another too.

Thanks for the help. Jim Carter has a 109" speedo cable so that might work. I was able to get a rear axle bumper from Bob. Anyone know were I can get another one.
