new 12v/6v Repro Capstan winches

There are now reproduction capstan winches on the market, BUT! they are electric motor driven, instead of PTO driven. Thought this was worth a mention on the mods board. Image

Hi Breven,

Thanks for sharing this! Just for the record, who is selling those winches?

It would be great if they could reproduce the original shaft driven.

I asked the "maker" of these winches when he first offered them here on the Gee and never got a complete answer:

How much current will they draw when in use? I mean, not only a pretty looking turning capstan head, but pulling out the jeep of mud and snow.

I've seen the reinforced alternator of a Wrangler TJ go straight to hell while trying to feed an electric winch.

I just can't imagine that the stock MB/ GPW generator, regulator and battery can take this for very long...

Anybody?

Any one had a price on these winches? Wonder if they would winch the vehicle or are they just for display.
