Very nice! Where did you get your spring bushings and do the tracking arm pillow block bushings have a bolt that gos through them? Also, what is the six wheeled gizmo in the back ground? :D

The bushing came from Bensinger( spelling?) The pillow blocks do have a bolt that goes through them but I have not put them in yet. The 6x6 thing in the back ground is a prototype carrier developed by GL Bowen in 1968 as a low cost replacement for the Mule. It's an amphib and according to Crimson's book, can do 4mph in the water and around 20 on land and carry 1000 lbs on either surface. It's a long term project. Nice thing about it is that it still has the original dataplate It shows serial # 1. lol

It's called the Economite.

Economite, how cute is that! Very cool. One day you'll have to snap some shots of it. BTW sorry I couldn't help with the clutch shaft. :(

It'll come Jason. I've done six MVs over the years. The first one took me 11 months, the next three years, then another three years, then two trailers each over a year and the last one, the Mite, will never be done  Sorta!

Beautiful work!
Is black the factory original color for the springs?

The NOS ones I had were black, so I just cleaned them off, wire brushed some of the rust and repainted a semi-gloss black.. Looks just like they did when I got them.

Over the last week, I had a chance to play with the M422 and put a few more parts on it. I removed the carb and the carb bracket to have the steel zinc plated since it was glass blasted and never refinished and was having light rust issues. Don't like the way that looks. Going to try to mount the transmission and front diff next week.

A little more progress made.

Trans/tranny installed (not the kind you find in Mid-town Atlanta) installed
Front diff and drive shaft assembly installed
.gov rebuilt starter (new in crate) installed but will be removing to replace starter arm with yellow zinc plated one

Other misc items done.

Great pics, great attention to detail. I like the engineering of those Mites. What type of primer do you use? The paint looks great.

I generally use a 2 part epoxy on the high stress areas or ones that could have a bit of wear, the rest, generally Krylon red primer or the aluminum primer they make.
