Yes, training in San Diego in 1943... Ist, 3rd or 4th Division was there.
3rd went to New Zealand in early 1943... then to Bougainville... so it is not them.
Ist Division was at Guadalcanal which is too early for the radio jeep and then they refitted in Australia. Possible but not likely.
Now the 4th Division was not active until Mid August 1943... after the radio jeep delivery started... they left San Diego late December in 1943 for the Kwajalein invasion. This may be photos of the 4th training.
Even though all three Divisions were deployed was there this type of training for replacements?
Any markings on anything as to which Division the photos are with?
Hahaha, after pondering all this I looked at the footage again and see the ship... USS Callaway (APA-35)
A quick look see and here we have where APA-35 has been.
"Callaway sailed from Norfolk 23 October 1943 to San Diego and trained with Marines to prepare for the first of her five assault landings. Joining TF 53 at Lahaina Roads, Hawaii, Callaway sailed for her baptism of fire at Kwajalein, where she landed troops in the assault that overwhelmed the defenders 31 January 1944."
I see my powers of observation are not entirely gone.
