I just resigned....

Postby Raymond S. Meldrum » Tue Oct 04, 2011 9:47 pm

My 9 year membership on http://ww2reenactors.proboards.com/

I got so sick of the nit-picky rules and politics, it drove me crazy... I realized it just wasn't worth it any longer. No one except the moderators read the postings any way.

Is anybody else out their an ex-patriot from this site? Whats your story ? Are their other sites like it out there that are more pleasant to deal with??

Makes me so grateful for the freedom in this place Ron has built. Ron you deserve a big thank you.

the constant battle between the stich nazies, and the john wayners, is perty much an ingrained part of the hobby. couple that with the ego of some controll freak, who talked to lawer once, and it makes reenacting a real chore. I dont even like to do show and tell anymore.
just not sure the juce is worth the squeez.

I am there only because I have to use it to keep reenactors updated on our Annual Bridge at Remagen , 1945 event in Tidioute, Pa. I have not much to say or learn there anymore.
That is why we made our own event to get away from theses people as stated from another person here. I have 20 years and with my fellow squad members we know the pitfalls of the hobby. Our event keeps most of them out to improve. Making the event what true honest reenactors want, authentic and fun all rolled in one.
If people like use do not work together to better this hobby we willl never honor the common oldier of any war. If a unit is trouble or event is the same, vote not to go or work with the trouble people. Banish and do your best to improve the hobby. Don't run to the bunker we need good people to back us up.

Brian, it isn’t the hobby itself, it’s that forum. While I agree that the hobby is filled with caustic people, it’s pretty bad on that forum even by re-enactor standards. There’s a legion of people who have fled there.
Raymond, I hear you there. You’re now in a very large club. Much has been said here on that forum and there will be plenty of people telling you how wrong you are before this thread is probably locked, as there’s a massive gap between those who support and decry that forum. When I removed myself, it was like a giant weight was lifted from me and I haven’t missed it one day since then.

Try here instead. Seems to be where most who got tired of that board went to.

Thanks for that link, I hadn’t heard of that, will go try it out. At this point I don’t have any real interest in getting too wrapped up in any forums anymore, especially dedicated to re-enacting. The G is pretty much the only consistent place I spend time and post much on. That’s mainly because it’s been an consistently good experience here.
No slam on re-enacting forums in general, but other than no product and event info, you don’t get much out of them if you’ve been in the hobby for a long time. It gets tiring to read about “my perfect event that will never happen”, griping about things that will never change, the hypocrisy of most re-enactors (everyone else does it wrong… EXCEPT ME) and questions from really lazy people that a simple Google search would have found an answer to.

I've found some very negative vibes from some re-enactors - here's an example of one.

Another has been removed from the board in question and lawyer's letters issued to the individual!

May I ask, are you able to give any assurance that the presence of reenactors really is 'welcome' by the membership of your group and those vehicle owners that will be attending? Traditionally vehicle owners seem to look upon the likes of us as something to jet-wash off their tyres when they get home. I can appreciate you are asking but I'd have reservations myself that reenactors will genuinely be wanted and won't just be treated as 'Silly wannabes who think they're soldiers and just get in the way' as is usually the case.

I just looked over the frontline site. It is a let down also, run by the people who were part of the proboard. Same stuff so not worth my time or my unit's effort to use it. The g503 is the only board that is a good place to be.

I had to start a forum for aviation reenactors as I was told that we "ramble" too much and get off course too much. Amazing all the little gestapo types on that other forum that want to control what you say.

I’m getting that vibe as well. I’ve noticed some entire sections haven’t had postings in over a year. Not a good sign. Also, Pfarber is there and in almost every thread on that forum. Also not a good sign. I doubt I’ll be spending much time there.
