WANTED/QUESTION: 1943 California Trailer Plate

Postby macaddict23 » Sun Sep 04, 2011 9:01 am

I'm looking for a 1943 California trailer plate for my 1943 MBT. Anyone have one for sale with a clear status? Or at least a picture of it so I know what to look for? Thanks!

I just came across this photo from John Neuenburg, and I'm wondering if this is what I need, but dated 43?

Also, do I need one of these "victory tabs"?

Have you thought about searching salvage yards and swap meets. Also so you can can google ventage liscenes plates and you might find collectors or someone whom reproduses vintage plates.

Research the CA DMV "YEAR OF MANUFACTURE (YOM)" license plate program, and the CA "Vehicle Industry Registration Procedures Manual."

My quick read of both says yes, for a 1943 trailer, you'd need a 1941 base CA trailer plate, a 1942 metal strip, and a 1943 "V" tab. I believe all 3 are steel.

As long as the base plate is clear in the DMV system, you should be good.

A couple of tips.

I suggest making an appointment with DMV rather than just walking in and waiting. Be prepared to ask for a manager or supervisor.

As long as the plate, strip and tab are legible and not too rusty or beat up, don't "restore" them until after you complete the registration.

Bump!

I'm still looking for a 1941 or 1942 PT California plate.

Thanks,
Dexter
