I wouldn't thinks the Judges are that finicky, but there's only one way to find out... :) I gave the Glass shop my old windows as a sample and that is what they gave me as replacement glass.

I don't know if there even are judging standards for these trucks. Given the relatively small number of them in comparison to MB/GPWs, I'm guessing we have a lot more leeway with our restorations. Most people are just happy to see something different at the shows. (Well, by "most people", I mean me, but I'm assuming others feel the same way.)

There are pretty sharp persons available at events that are called on, it is best not to stray far from original.

This is one of the finest restorations we have the privilege of witnessing, it is therefore a bit regrettable tinted glass is used as such glass had never been installed on a military truck build during the conflict. Still, a great job!

I have Solex glass in my Chevy. You can't even tell that the glass has any color to it at all. With the paint surrounding it, and the paint inside the cab, it kinda just blends in. Also, most people do not know much about glass and all the variations out there, they don't see color until it is pointed out.
Sorry Cody, I see that I should not have said anything. It appears I have drawn another nay-sayer out of the woodwork.

Having lived in SoCal for 11 years, I gotta say that if you're planning on driving the truck regularly, that tinting will certainly offer some relief from the bright sunlight out there, especially up in the high desert.

Unfortunately, it is not within my budget to perform a "Contours Restoration", I have always had it in my mind that this is a "Representation" of the G7117 it was manufactured as, that is why I am not going to make it perfect, That would take much, much longer. I would like to present it in a state it would have been during its Military Career, a Truck capable of daily work (and off-road operation to pan for Gold and go shooting with my dad...). I would like to use this truck as a Driving vehicle, not a "Trailer Queen" that never is used as it was Engineered.

As for comments, I welcome them! This is America, the Beautiful U.S. of A! We are blessed to live in a Country we can say what we want, when we want.

Also, I have yet to pull "Father Duty", So my wife (of 5 years) keeps telling me along with the rest of the family,"When are we gonna have some babies?" I know as soon as that happens I can forget about Olive drab stuff for quite a while...especially since being raised an only child, I haven't read that service manual yet. Its gonna be a pretty large "Culture Shock" for me...It never seems there is enough hours in the day!

I thought up a little saying many years ago it goes like this,"I used to play Chess with time, Now I play Chess against it."

Happy Labor Day Everyone!!!

If I lived where the glare warranted use of tinted glass, I would not hesitate.

I wasn't saying it was wrong or should lose points, but having done some Model A and T judging I know they get anal about little things, with all the great work you are putting into this truck I assumed you would be showing it, but either way it's your truck and it looks great! I wish I had the time and money to do a proper restoration!

Here are some photo's of Windshield/Door glass, The windshield division bar did not go well. I thought it would be a 5 minute thing but I was wrong...the new replacement rubber was to "Chunky" I had to shave off rubber from the backside of it to fit into the trim piece. I could of probably used the old rubber but did not fore-see the small size difference that did not allow the trim to easily pop on like it was supposed to (dang it!). Now the trim piece is dented and slightly dis-figured due to prying and pulling...It seems to be easier to pay the extra money (aprox. $80.00 instead of $25.00) and buy the division bar with the rubber already installed.

As for the door window channel, I bought it from an aftermarket vendor and it did not match the original "Two piece" style. It is a one piece "corregated/Flexible" channel, it went in fairly easy. I installed one end into the lower retaining tang, ran it up a few inches to the retaining screws (3), used an Awl to pierce holes through the channel for the mounting screws, then trimmed the other end to install it into the other retaining tang. The door glass is installed into the door at an aproximate 45 deg. angle then rotated back to a Horizontal position. I need to repair the lower window channel to allow proper window regulator operation it the channel so they were not installed at this time. (i.e. where the rollers slide back and forth)

Oh, and I have to transfer "Military" windshield hole dimentions onto the "Civ'vy" windshield frame to accomidate the window slider support bars and hinges. The Civ'vy hinges are on the inside of the frame, but the holes look like the previous Factory machine work holes are already "tapped" with threads, they just need to be drilled all the way through to mount the hinges on the other side.

Check out this, if you have rotten door channels you may try this, here are some photos of my "Re-enforcing" the lower window channels for the doors. The decades weren't kind to the regulator tracks...they were deteriorated by moisture. I got some industrial epoxy called "Belzona" which is like J.B. weld, I don't know how it differs from J.B. weld other different concentrations of epoxy or solids in the base material (J.B. weld will work the same way). Anyway, I got a few c-clamps, used some 1/4 inch square stock metal, cut it to size, made some spacers out of excess 1/4 inch metal to clamp it down, spread the Belzona around and 15-20 minutes later...Presto! I'll have to remount the glass in the frames, but now I fell better about the condition of the glass channels.

Here's some photo's of windshield work on the cab, I had to transfer holes onto the Civ'vy frame using the original frame as a template. Then I drilled the original Civ'vy hinge holes all the way through a ran a tap through to mount the Military hinges on the cab and frame to allow the full range of motion. After that the windshield was re-installed into the R/L frames, the new angle bars were "Anti-Siezed" and installed into the frame, the division bar was installed, the slider bars were installed, the Tuf-Pak glas insulation was trimmed and the perimeter seal was installed. The Door glass was re-assembled after the re-enforcement service and then the windows would finally go up and down under their own power!

Nothing too exiting here, I just glued my mirror into the frame and base, then I installed it into the cab and installed my door panels. Although...I did call and check on my Wiring Harness and it is supposed to be done this coming week. Woo-Hoo! (from Vintage Wiring of Maine)

Here are some photos of the cab, I re-installed the old door ferrules with the proper ferule tool, replaced the rear seat bumpers in the back of the cab and installed the driver door entry windlace.
