WW2 Chicago Pneumatic compressor trailer

Postby 13th Armored » Mon Jul 18, 2011 1:32 pm

Just picked this up and need some help finding what unit's TOE it might have been in but any information as to the compressor or engine will be helpful! Has a 4 cyl. gas Hercules engine with a casting date of 4-13-43. Magneto ign. and crank start. Looks like the original paint was yellow with the OD over that. It has a Jeep trailer axle (with the wrong rims) and it all looks original.
Thanks

That stock number seems a bit newer than WWII. Is the compressor portion a Worthington?

The compressor is clearly a Chicago Pneumatic.
The engine is clearly a Hercules dated 4-13-43.

That Hercules engine may not be the original Hercules that came in there. Are there any dates on the compressor or chassis?

I have not found any dates on the compressor castings yet but I have not looked it over REAL carefully. The stock number (4310-288-9508) made me think it was post war but I have no way of knowing what that number relates to, could be a later number I guess.
The trailer data plate only indicates the serial number (36836) and the bore and stroke of the two compressor cylinders.
