Jan,

According to the records I have for deliveries there were 621 GPA's delivered on S/M 2820.

You have 284 units listed.

The WD record cards show 338 of them delivered to the UK and lists the following numbers:

P 5219692 to P 5219876 = 185 units
P 5219881 to P 5219981 = 100 units
P 5587101 to P 5587200 = 100 units

385 total listed plus the ones delivered to ME, SA , India and Admiralty.

These are what is listed as delivered to the WD (not counting vehicles ordered but sunk on ships) .

I would like to determine how many were shipped to see if they all got there safe....

"....Statistical Work Sheets from the Tank-Automotive Center (TAC) had 3,020 GPA’s dispatched to Russia by November 1, 1944, ..”

Jim

What is the date of the SWS that lists this?

RESPONSE - Statistical Work Sheets to November 1, 1944, Volume 32 (RG156, Entry 936, Box 181) and includes;
• Total No of Vehicles accepted to date – 12,774.
• UK – 690
• USSR – 3,020
• China – 40
• Other – 528

I have extracts of Statistical Work Sheets to;
• April 1, 1944
• July 1, 1944
• November 1, 1944
• March 1, 1945
• June 1, 1945
• August 1, 1945

I vaguely recall some gaps in records and only copied documents mentioning GPA. I possibly did not see the September 1, 1945 records. The August 1, 1945, record did not have the overseas breakdown for GPA, however, had 5,033 GPA’s for 1942 and 7,741 GPA’s for 1943 (Total 12,774).

Following is an extract of a private email I forwarded to somebody quite some time ago and can be referenced to the following document;
http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/ref ... ip-3B.html
I sourced an original of this document at National Archives, DC, previously.

The British Empire is listed with 852 GPA’s and will include 161 that were delivered to Australia (Australian records), ie 852 – 161 = 691. Both your records and mine table 690 as the number of GPA’s to the British. An anomaly of 1 GPA remains.

The British numbers included those to India. British records indicate 151 British GPA’s were in India on 1 September, 1944.

A British Ministry of Supply document to Winston Churchill of 28 June, 1943, recorded 34 British GPA’s lost at sea during shipping (delivery) from the USA.

A summary of the Lend Lease document is as follows;

• British Empire - 852
• USSR – 3,520
• French Forces - 24
• China - 40
• Brazil - 22
• Canada - 22
• Netherlands - 6
• TOTAL – 4,486

I have a number of posts on the Maple Leaf Up Forum;
http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=5
that talks much on British GPA numbers, etc.

Time has beaten me tonight and I will pick up on the subject again soon.
