clutch z tube bracket

Postby gunny flip » Wed Jun 15, 2011 12:22 pm

hi, I need the bracket that the clutch z tube is bolted to, on my 151, it is spot welded to the big main channel , then the steering box is bolted over it, if I knew how to post a picture,I would.

When you get yours in and if it is a blank bracket then perfect. Now on your old one to remove it you will need spotweld removale panel bits (google it). Once you remove the old bracket it will leave buttons on the frame area which is good welding points.

Make a template of the removed bracket and transfer the hole areas to the new then drill out the holes so they it will fit the buttons tight. May have to use a hammer to seat it in flush with the frame. If satisfied with the look and fit weld in place.

If the bracket is a TO or has holes punch in NOS bracket and the buttons don't line up then reinstalled the old bracket and draw a line around the bracket then grind off the buttons and mount your new bracket with in drawed line and weld it up at the holes. May have to reinforce the bracket with outside paremater welds of the bracket.

One other last option is to grind the top of the old bracket off flush with the top of frame then cut your TO or NOS bracket and weld onto the old bracket but will requir some reinforcement welds on the back side.

Wish you good luck, later Joe.

Hey thanks to you all's feedback,I ended up grinding/cutting off the old bracket, the main channel had holes/rust bad so I towed it to this frame/racecar place and they were going to fix the main channels, I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow, I got the new bracket from rapco parts.I just got done with replacing the front seal on the transfer case which leaked.I am debating if I should go ahead and replace the rear seal as it would be very convenient as the motor is setting on a table
right now.(it's not leaking)
you all have a good weekend
