Travis AirPower Expo 2011 Display July 29-31 UPDATES

Postby John Neuenburg » Tue May 10, 2011 12:31 pm

Sonny asked me to check with Travis AFB after learning they are having another big open house air show July 30-31. Good news - we have been invited to do a big MV display. This show only happens every few years at best. Thunderbirds are headlining. The staff is enthusiastic about us. I am the POC for the MV display. Looking for 40 MVs. Arrival encouraged Friday the 29th. Free, dry campground approved on the hill near the Museum overlooking the flight line. Use of base gym for showers. Optional lodging $39/night let me know if want reservation. Fuel alloted to first 30 on "The List": been cut back due to budget, probably 8 or 10 gallons per vehicle. Invitation to participants dinner Fri. Saturday dinner is on you. The Delta Breeze Club will be hopping and will have food. Both EM and Officers side is open to us. Militaria displays, obsolete uniforms welcome at display. Demil/deactivated/replica weapons OK. Blades OK if wired or zip tied to equipment. If arriving on Sat. or Sun., do so before 0800 or the traffic will be bad. 0700 better. North Gate is recommended those days. Need to be in place before spectators are in area. I will send out maps to people on "The List" as event gets closer.

NEED FOLLOWING TO GET YOU ON GATE LIST - To get in Friday or before/after show hours on the weekend you need to be on The List. They will do a computer criminal background check so I need full names of all in your party, dates of birth, ideally social security numbers. Also MV type or other display planned, what days planned, and if you need dinner tickets or paid lodging. Contact me via email or cell 415-306-3607. All on List can pick up performer badges at the Visitor Center near Main Gate. Last minute deciders have the option of entering with spectators Saturday or Sunday after 0830 (free) and finding our camp/parking area which is uphill from the Museum. You should be able to gain access with your MV to the display if not much after 0900. Any trouble, phone me.

MUSEUM SHUTTLES WANTED - Jimmy Doolittle Air & Space Museum has asked us to shuttle VIPs from their display booth to the museum and back. Mostly sponsors and potential sponsors. This booth will be next to our display so shuttle MVs will not be remote from our motor pool. This is a golden opportunity to drive during the show! We can take shifts. Beside the indoor displays they have 35 aircraft. They are currently fundraising so they can move to a site outside the gate. This project is being assisted by Tom Hanks and he narrates an interesting short movie at the museum. Let me know if we can count on your (slow) driving skills.

The day of this post I sent an email out to those on my list who gave me addresses. If you didn't see this email arrive, send me an email or PM with your email address. This letter was just to confirm I can contact you. Will send out directions and map showing our camp and tow-vehicle area a week or two out from the event.

I made a few changes to the original post so check it out.

NEW EDIT ON 7/3. Here are the names on The List as of today. If you are not there you need to contact me. Need ID info for all in your party. If you don't see your buddy but think he is planning to go, tell him to contact me. First 30 on The List get fuel. We might be limited to 60 Friday dinner tickets. Wing Commander cancelled Saturday dinner, see original post. Please understand that if you bring guests they may not get food as part of our participant deal.

OK Willy. Thanks for letting me know. I'd like to check out that Jamboree sometime. Only time I rode the Rubicon trail was on a Yamaha in 1971. Pretty nasty sluice box trails. People have said it was smoother then than it is now because motorcycles over the years have kicked out a lot of the small rocks.

Thank you John.
If you want to ride some time let me know
my Jeep has a welder and shower on board as much water as you want sucking it from the lake.
I should put one on for the Alaska trip.

For Alaska you should find a full body mosquito net rated for 40 mph.

Isn't that how you tell if you need to add some? Your buddy following you gets lost on the Rubicon because yours stops leaking?
