Removed the old pinion brake assembly and replaced it with all new components. Look at the disk brake, it is shaped like a plate! Must have gotten quite hot once!

On a recent trip to IL, I spotted this load of hmmwv's! Nice, eh!

All soft top HMMWV's (2 and 4 seaters) from the 1984 to atleast 2001 were delivered from the factory in the 2 man configuration with the knockout panels for the rear door. No doors, no canvas. When they got to the unit, the unit ordered the appropriate canvas kit to make it into the 2 or 4 seater they needed.

Hi Ted,

I had a brake disk that was worse than that. It looked like a bowl!

As it got hotter it got worked by the brake pads like clay on a potters wheel. It got thinner and bigger in diameter until it hit the caliper body and that worked the rotor into a right angle rim!

Cheers

I had a chance to finish up a few things and put the new tires on M1038 and got it move on it own again! Nice truck and fun in the snow. I did find that the rear differential has a problem so I will add that to list and parts pile. I cut a deal with a guy on parts swap for a under carriage carc black paint job! So this truck will look nice and fresh by late winter.

more. I still need to find time for the wiper motor replacement, soft top kit install, tail pipe and interior work. :)

The weather is chilly and calm before the big storm on its way! In the snow are: Mog tracks, Deuce tracks, HMMWV tracks and wife's tracks

Installed new wiper motor. BTW, it is easier to remove the crankarm from the wiper motor assembly, then attach the connecting arms and then install clip. Line up and connect crank arm to motor and bolt into place. I also pulled the heater duct and vent and I found an old smelly mouse nest from days gone by! Yuck! Cleaned, reconnected the ducting and now air makes it over to the drivers side! Install hood bumpers, installed foam tape under window frame and 4 man top (nice used one to match paint) and rear camo curtain. I rearranged the shop so that I can drop the rear diff and install a new one during snowmageden tonight and tomorrow!

A blizzard (snow storm) that is about to hit lower Michigan in about 2 hours and will dump around 18" of snow with 40 mph winds. :) A cold version of the Cat 4 storm to hit the eastern portion of your nice continent!

Thanks Jacob. This has the standard springs since it was always a M1038. Yours had a shelter carrier added so that is when someone installed the 3000 pound springs.

It's upgraded to Category 5 now! It has a 1,000 mile storm front with 295km/h winds...
Image
(for scale, Australia is about 96% of the size of the continental United States)

BTW, It's also hitting the coast on a high tide so they are predicting a 6m storm surge along the coast.
It's like old testament days down here....

Yup, winter wonderland George!

Brad, I'll take a snow storm over a Cat 5 storm! 6m = 19.68' That is a lot of water!

Last night I moved the Unimog into the heated shop so that it would be nice and toasty warm for plowing this morning. I plowed out the driveway and the county road by my house and I then drove to work about 1.5 hours late. It is fun driving in snow when no one else is on the road.
