I say go the extra 750, if it is as solid as it looks, it would be worth it.
My opinion only! I hate fixing rust.

VIN = 8305017355598
83 = universal CJ-5
05 = open body (softop)
0 = disregard
1 = LH drive
7 = V6 225
355598 = sequential serial number
conforms to 1969 sn's

The last Canadian built CJ-5s were in the 35xxxx sn range, 1969.
Canadian built CJ-5s did NOT have "jeep" stamping on side.

If the rebuild on the engine is a quality job, she runs and drives well, and the brakes and running gear are healthy that a very realistic price.

Hey Cuz,
Thanks for the reply. The engine rebuild looks to be a very quality job. The engine runs perfectly. The steering is a little loose and at higher speeds there is some vibration from the front axle/ wheels (could be due to dry rotted tires with flat spots from sitting) The brakes are pathetically weak, but a local mechanic assures me they are functioning as they should. The body is perfect, but from what I can gather it is mostly reproduction metal. No emergency brake (is that normal?) So his bottom line of 6K is reasonable you think?

I would think twice. Check to see if a kit is available for the V-6 Steering Gear, weak brakes are not normal on the V-6 Set up. Is the Parking Brake missing alltogether or just not functioning. You can sink way over a grand on these three items easily.

Parking brake is just not there. I thought it should be behind the transfer case. Not so. The brakes are weak but I was told that was normal and that most people did a conversion to disc brakes. Maybe I should clarify- I don't think there is anything wrong with the steering, its just not very tight. I appreciate your input before i offer money. I don't need a show vehicle, just some reliable fun I can tinker with. The V6 is so torquey it was a blast to drive.

The addition of the single stick transfer case probably is the reason for the missing transfer case mounted emergency brake. The way folks score jeep brakes depends on just how familiar they are with old manual brake systems. Compared to a modern light weight car the same weight as the jeep that can go 100 MPH the early manual brakes on the jeep will feel weak. The 225 V6 will be a lot of fun to drive. If the tires are dry rot and not really servicable then negotiate in the cost of a set of tires, a parking brake installation and a steering box rebuild.

It just came to me, your V-6 CJ-5 should have cable operated rear drum brakes, the single cable to the rear wheel backing plates will have two conduits, one for each backing plate. Rear Drum Parking Brakes are stock on the Single Lever Transfer Case.
Is the cable still there, it goes from the lower rear area of the transfer to both both rear backing plates?
The V-6 came with either 9" X 2" or 10" X 2" brakes.
Is there a Vacuum Booster on your Jeep? If it has a Single Master Cylinder it should have the Booster, those Jeeps with a Split Master Cylinder will have none.

I'll have to check on the booster- I'll ask the owner. Thanks for all the info. Either way it looks like I'll be able to make a functional parking brake right?

I looked again at the pictures and I don't see a brake booster.

The parts are unique to the CJ-5 V-6 production years. Any missing Parking Brake hardware and linkage parts will be obsolete thru Jeep, some NOS may be scattered around the various dealers selling replacement parts and Auto salvage yards. Some V-6 Jeepster Commando parts thru 1971 will fit. There is a huge Jeep Graveyard in Arizona named Willys something or other that will have some items.

Master cylinder is under floor. :D
Another point to consider is , there are many later, 72 and up Cjs out there for decent prices.
The AMC straight six is a strong engine, bigger brakes, better steering (saginaw box), and better axles, better transmissions and 20 series xfer cases.
CJ-7s have improved leg room too.
Just a thought to consider.

Hey Ed,
Thanks for the input. Good to know about the AMC v6 because I fell in love with that 225 V6. I am just trying to figure out what condition jeep can be had for 5-6k. I have my eyes open all the time.
