CCKW DO-DADS

Postby Ben Dover » Sun Dec 05, 2010 7:43 am

If you like to collect WWII accessories to display with your CCKW, (OR ANY WWII MV) the EVANAIR GASOLINE FIRED UNDER CHASSIS HEATER is a good choice. These are WWII Army Issue heaters used to maintain starting temperatures in the engine, transmission and battery when parked in sub-zero weather. It hangs on a bale under the chassis near the engine of any combat vehicle. A tarp is used to surround the chassis to keep the heat in. Fittings are included with the heater to gravity feed the heater from the vehicle fuel tank.

Pics of my heater will be posted later today.

Sounds like a very interesting piece of equipment. I am looking forward to viewing the photos. What is its' rate of fuel consumption? Does it give off too much carbon monoxide to be used as a personnel heater? Just curious.

This EvanAir Heater is NOS and manufactured during 1943.
They can still be found NOS in the factory box with Instruction Manual. Notice the Bale which allows it to be hung beneath the chassis near engine or gear boxes. All that is done is to attach the fuel line to the vehicle fuel tank drain and the fuel is gravity fed to the heater.
These are a Genuine WWII Accessory related to winter operation in extreme cold weather.

NOTE:
CARBON MONOXIDE is not a major concern if the unit is operated outdoors as intended.

Anyone buy one yet?
If you are lucky enough to get a boxed NOS, it will have instructions.

You know, I think I have one! I bought something like that years ago. It is on the shelf in the ROD (Raymond Ordnance Depot) I think. I have the barn where I live now, the POD, (Pembroke Ordnance Depot) which is the smaller (30x60) than the ROD (42x60). Getting older and somewhat 'forgetful', when I go over to the ROD, sometimes it is like Xmas! I find things I bought years ago, even some I have no recollection of buying! :)

You do not need the NOS box to get the instructions since they come rolled and stored in the center part of the heater.
