Ammo Can Glove Box
I installed a .50 cal ammo can between the front seats of my 1/4 ton. It was a can we used when I was on active duty with an EOD unit that we used to carry blasting caps. It has a padlock hasp so I figured it would be a great locking "glove box."
After a bit of use I realized that the can was nice but it was impossible to stay organized. So I built this insert with a removable sliding shelf.
The pics do a better job of explaining than I can. The insert was made with 1/4 inch plywood, glue, and brads.

I had a box like that but not with the wood tray. Every time you wanted something it was on the bottom. This box looks good!

That's some really nice woodworking going on there! . In case anyone else's carpentry skills are lacking, Brownells sells the plastic .50 cal ammo can organizers. Here's a link; http://www.brownells.com/shooting-acces ... =100009811" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Unfortunately, they are currently out of stock

I love this idea. I'm stealing it! Muwahahaa...lol. So simple, but so genius. Thanks for the motivation

That is a great idea. Thanks for posting it. Yours looks great. I plan to do the same thing. Did you make the boxes for it or purchase them?
Thanks,
Bob

Re: Ammo Can Glove Box
That almost looks like my Ammo box tool box.
Same thing. 1/4 inch plywood to hold the upper tray.
All wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers go into the bottom, all sockets sit on the tray.
Had it for years till the fire in 2018.
And yes, I rebuilt it with the tools I need for my M151A2.
Your looks better of course.

Re: Ammo Can Glove Box
To continue:
My ammo can toolbox contains the following...
3/8”, 7/16”, 1/2”, 9/16”, 5/8” and 11/16 wrench.
The same with sockets. 3/8” to 11/16” with a 1 1/8” socket. 3” and 6”extension.
Wire cutters, Pliers, both screwdrivers, tape and spare pig tails.
With just these basic tools, I can almost make any repairs to my M151A2 in the field.
