US Army Modified M151A1 in Germany

Post by muttguru » Sun Feb 17, 2008 12:42 pm

Dear listers,

I know this probably belongs on the G503 Mod board but before it finds its way over there, I thought you might like to hear the story that goes with it.
My friend in Germany says:-

Ken, another crazy story has turned up in Germany. This Mutt is claimed to be changed by the American army. This was supposed to be done in Fürth near to Nuremberg at the maintenance shop of 1st Armored Division (Old Ironsides) for test purposes and to show that the M151 is able to do better offroads. They have put a V6 engine into it, there are considerable alterations to the suspension (including airshocks filled by a compressor which was driven by the rear differential PTO), cage (but no ROPS) and a load of other things (for example a double tire solution at the rear axle).

Here's a couple of photos for your delectation. Looks like someone was working on the lines of Bleddyn...before Bleddyn (-:

Ken

That's not the only one that was modified for running duals in the back. Here is a pic I have, but I don't remember where I got it. It seems like it came from a place that got a few from the military that were thus modified. The vehicle you posted says "Hell Patrol" on it. Makes me think it was more likely a civilian modification.

I never got a chance to work on one of the Dually M151 projects, but I know their where a few made, I saw a few in Germany and also in Korea over the years. Never got a chance to drive one. I have seen this set up on M151A1's and A2's and from what I was told they rode real good and very stable. Be nice to find a few more pictures with more close up's.

Nice to see someone else posting insane mods pictures for fun guys.

How much do you think it would cost to have a set made?

Be nice to have that as a future project item to play with...LOL

That would be awesome OHIOMUTT Nate and I would love to have the option of playing around with building a Dually...LOL

Just one more crazy M151 project to contemplate, if we do buy the plates from you we will have to search for another M151 junker to work on for sure...LOL Thanks Buddy
