You can get some pretty powerful magnets out of a speaker or out of an electric motor. Might be worth a trip to a junk yard for some speaker magnets or the electric motor shop for some out of an old electric motor

Raymond

P.S. Rick, have you tried clamping them in a vice an using a flat prybar and hammer to separate them :?:

Raymond, I did a little research on these magnets and found first off that I should have done the research BEFORE I bought them. I found that these are very brittle and will shatter if you get rough with them. I also found out that these rare earth magnets are what is being used in todays starters and speakers. That is why you cant crawl under the car and beat on the starter like we used to. I actually found plans for building a tool out of wood for separating the bigger magnets and the smaller ones you put the stack on its side on the edge of a sturdy table and with heavy gloves on you move one magnet over the edge and push down on it and slide t off of the stack. After what it did to my hand I am a little paranoid about that.

Hello Gents!

This has always been one of my favorite threads as I’ve had plenty of experience with ammo boxes and trying to come up with solutions that would work for me. I started with a big box like in the header of the thread, and then I decided to put the machine gun pedestal back in, and then the box wouldn’t fit. Then I put a smaller box in (with slight alteration to one of the lips of the lid). A to-do list of things I wanted to be able to control (control-central) in the jeep got me thinking. ‘MP light & siren (that’s 2), back-up light, kill-switch, dome-light, alternating headlamps, alarm, ‘PA/Sirens, Scanner, Civi-radio, ‘CB, fuses, and I think that just about covers it. The question was; could I fit all that power/control/capability, into (and that would work out of) such a small box?

The answer was YES!!!

Nice but, alternating headlights and PA/SIREN? In a MUTT? Scanner? What era are you portraying?
