That's it for now. Waiting to get back home on days off to complete the engine and install it in the frame.

Will try to keep this thread going :)

Dan, I have not done it on the rear axle yet, but will do it. Need to remove the springs again and hammer them in shape. Always
2 steps forward...one back... :)

Beers,

Thank you. Very time consuming to do it like this, but I like it. Here are some nice "Before" and "After" photos of my 42 GPW block.
Took 1 year to repair. All NOS parts inside.

I have been reading the stories on how new main seals can cause problems, so I used NOS rope seals:

Test fit of crankshaft:

Image

As per TM, when installing a new flywheel to crank, the 2 dowel pin holes must be drilled with 35/64ths
drill and reamed to 9/16. Then special dowel bolts installed. Not many vendors list these bolts for sale.

Test fitting of pistons. 2 of the pins were too tight. Had to lap the piston holes for a better fit as per TM:

Measured end play, piston fit. piston rings, bearing clearance etc. All good and crank moves with hand:

Fitted Richard Sanders upgrade time chain. Temp oil pan used while NOS pan repaired. Crank nut
left to be cleaned and painted:

Decided to just install a new clutch instead of spending time trying to repair the non F
marked clutch I had. Took 10 min to install:

Image

Thick copper gasket used. Called "Best gasket 555" Got this from John Bizal, Midwest military.

Even the lock washers on flywheel bolts are NOS GPW part. Not enough clearance for the 9/16
dowel bolts, so just used lock tight on them.

NOS oil float, right manufacturer as per parts list:

Studs installed as per early GPW config:

Decided to install the pump as is, with original color. The color is similar, but I did notice there was a big difference in the
color from Plasti kote new ford gray I bought locally and the box I bought recently from USA. So word of advise, buy enough
of them to do the whole jeep in one go, from same lot number
