Mark,
Is this the filter you wanted? There is one on the inside of the dash, next to the ignition switch. The starter has been taken off the Jeep. Where would the starter filter be?
Image

GI,
There is a lacquer type sealer sprayed on the top surfaces of the motor and motor accessories that has darkened with age. I was told this is original to the Jeep from that period. This photo shows it best, you can even see it on the hose:
Image

Sean,
The engine has most of it's original grey paint. It looks dark on top of the head, etc. from the above mentioned sealer darkening with age. Look at the pictures at the beginning of this post to see the grey paint.

Shawn,
Thanks for your comments. This Jeep will remain unchanged, as long as I own it. I feel I'm just the caretaker of my collectible things for the time I own them and as such, am responsible for their preservation while under my watch. After I choke, who knows..... Do you recognize that axe on the side? You should.

I have had to adapt similar filters for the job.
Here is my regulator with the required filters on each side.

Here is one on a Nov 1944 GPW for the ignition switch.

And here is the filter for the starter switch on a 1945 GPW.

Hehe, I’m not looking to take your filters, just to see if you have them.

That ia an interesting regulator, would you mine posting the model and serial number or a little better photo for me.

Very nice jeep indeed..... :)

Steve, Is your trailer socket unpainted?

I have a NOS trailer socket, with nice original cadmium plating....I just cant bring myself to paint over it, and I read in an old thread here that some of the GPW came with the socket unpainted from the factory.

Hinrik,
The socket looks to have left the factory without any paint on it.

Hello,

I really like the preservation of this jeep, and thought others would like to see it again,
so to keep it from getting lost in the G503 history, as time goes by, I had it bookmarked so it can be recalled :D :D :D
The owner has a real diamond there :D

Hello Steve,

It surely is a beautiful jeep that has survived the march of time and the elements !!!!

If you get a chance, it would be great to see more pictures of it, it is such a rare thing of beauty :D :D :D

A great WW2 soldier, from California passed away a few days ago. He fought in France with my father as a soldier the 70th Division.
He often told me about being on a maneuver in California when he saw one of those mini-jeep prototypes leading a column of vehicles along a road in the hills of California. He said he only saw one jeep like that, once, but he always remembered it.

Best Regards,

Ray

Hi Steve,

I was wondering if you could share a detail on your beautiful GPW?

Can you photo and share the type of buckle on the canvas straps please- axe, shovel, hood bow to body and canvas top under seat stowage straps please? I was not sure if you had the original canvas roof either, but the straps on that too please if you do!

Thanks in hope,
Ian.

Ian,
Sorry, I missed your post back in March. The straps were made for me by a good friend, and were made for the era. This Jeep is now for sale on the for sale board.

Did you sell this yet? Your price is too low in my opinion!! If I wasn’t in the middle of a resto, this would be mine.
