Re: 1945 Willys #426468
Starting working on the MB. Brakes look good, but all the wheel cylinders are stuck, ordered those, master, and rubber lines. Lug nuts and studs need help, had left nuts on right studs, right on left, hubs swapped, studs spinning in hubs, just a mess. Not a biggie, plenty of parts from the pile for that. Pulled the covers for the diffs and transfer case, oil looked good, but they all had a 1/2in to in layer of crud in bottom. No water anywhere. Greased everything, and fresh oil.
Pulled all the valves and cleaned them, getting them touched up at machine shop. Seats look good, do a light lapping on them. Pulled pan, more crud in bottom, oil looked good, didn't see any metal.
Still have to pull gas tank and clean, install fuel pump and carb, new battery. Swap some decent tires on. Plenty to do, hope to have it running in couple weeks.

Re: 1945 Willys #426468
I'm screwed. Only work done to motor was a head gasket. Whoever did that must have used a angle grinder on the block, it's wavy, with dips of .030 or more. Looks like a 5 year old worked on it. So now I'm pulling motor, hopefully I can get it decked, probably have to cut pistons too.

Another that fell victim to bubba...unfortunate but fingers crossed it'll still work out for you. Definitely looks like the entire jeep is solid, too! Good luck with your project.Stretch44875 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 21, 2017 3:13 amI'm screwed. Only work done to motor was a head gasket. Motor is at machine shop, getting decked, don't look like pistons will need cut. Having valve seats done, bores honed, and crank polished. Bearings look good, might throw a new set of rods and mains in, or maybe better to leave old ones in, they are probably better material.
Been working on the brakes, new lines, master, wheel cylinders, seals and changing/cleaning out gear oil. Changing both pinon seals and seals on transfer case. All the gears look great.

Nice work! Since your jeep is so close to my 28 March 45 jeep I have a couple simple question for you. It looks like your jeep was fairly intact and untouched.
1) If your rear floor foot rests are still there does the bolts have a lock washer under the head of the bolt?
2) Under the passenger seat does your jeep still have the factory installed hardware for the decontaminator bracket present? If so does it have flat washers?
3) Does your jeep still have the wiring from the Radio Junction Box going to the starter switch under the floor? If it does how is the wire held to the underneath of the floor? I have two tabs welded to my floor that I just want to confirm held the wiring.
4) Can you tell if there are star(tooth) washers between the Voltage Regulator and fender?
5) Does the main wire harness going to the rear held by a clip attached to one of the cage nuts for the drivers side rear floor foot rest? If so which one?
Thank you
TJ

Re: 1945 Willys #426468
Picked up a gem oil can. My great uncle, from who I bought my 46 2a, worked on Jeeps quite a bit back in the day. So I looked through his stuff and found an oiler. He also was in charge of maintenance for a military Depot, so plenty of vintage tools. Don't think the spout is right.
Found a nice crack in the exhaust manifold. Again. Seems like they all crack there. Had it welded up, then machined it flat. Going to need 2 gaskets, but it's nice and square.
Does this brass throttle spacer belong under carb? Think it goes to a generator.

Not on a Jeep. I don't know if a generator uses it.Stretch44875 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 16, 2017 9:31 amDoes this brass throttle spacer belong under carb? Think it goes to a generator.
