Re: Jordan's 1944 Willys MB 305597
Thanks Einar!
I dug the other side with a bit more success.
I can confirm the number on the hood is 161096. I believe this is a replacement hood. Can anyone verify?
This will be my last post for 30 days as I am off to training at the NTC in California!

Jordan,
Dexter had pointed out that it appears to be an early Ford hood on your other thread.

I think I have broken the record for the longest time operating on brakes. Originally, it was merely a learning process, but I eventually found that parts needed to be replaced and I had a lot of troubleshooting to complete. I replaced the wheel cylinders, springs, and brake shoes. I got it all piece tother after waiting on parts to find the that the front left brake was locking up. I ordered flex hoses and replaced those, to find that the rear brake line wouldn't seal back on it, so now I have ordered a whole new steel brake line set. Once I get those installed, there is no reason these brakes shouldn't last for a LONG time as practically all of it is new. RFJP has been a good friend to me lately!
So far, not looking to restore or preserve this MB. Just trying to keep it safely running and driving until I move to a new home this summer!

Jordan,
A very nice rust free jeep. In deciding what to do with it, be aware that it looks like it is a little bid of a "salad jeep" as it has a mix of both Willys and Ford Parts. For instance, 3 of the spring packs are Ford, and one may be Willys. The drivers seat is Ford (you can see the F script on the back). I had heard that Willys supplied Ford in the starting days will frames but I did not think they numbered them. I apologize as I am novice on what to look for between Willys and Ford but find it interesting the inconsistent parts for a Willys.
Good luck,
Donovan.

Another vote for preservation only. I've had success removing paint with pressure washer only. You have a very nice JEEP.

Re: Jordan's 1944 Willys MB 305597
I got the brakes installed. It was a pain in the butt because one thing kept going wrong after the other. I have taken a few weeks off from working on the Jeep too much because we had a daughter on March 29th. That, plus I have just wanted to enjoy driving it a little. The brakes aren't perfect, but they are good enough for now. I will tear them apart again and replace the eccentrics and the anchors down the line, when I replace the axle shafts in the front. Right now, they are impossible to adjust properly, so it has a decent left pull when the brakes are applied.
-Replaced all wheel cylinders, brake shoes, flex hoses, master cylinder, and replaced select steel brake lines. Flushed/bled the brakes multiple times.
-Replaced radiator hoses under the hood. The thermostat housing start to crumble from rust, so I bought a new one. Just waiting to install it. Replaced the coolant.
-Bought correct repro spark plug wires, but haven't installed yet. Also bought correct battery terminals, but they are waiting installation as well.
-Bought repro blackout light guard and original blackout light. Awaiting to be installed.
-Restored a fuel gauge. Tested it with the meter and it should work fine. Will install when I do a wiring harness install.
-Purchased NOS hub flanges. I will install these when I decide to pony up for new axle shafts and install them.
-Installed repro mirror arm and bought a smoked lens King Bee repro mirror.
-Installed repro footrests
I think my next big project will be replacing the lockout hubs with the correct axle shafts. This will also help me replace the hardware on the brakes to hopefully more easily adjust them. I will also repack the bearings at this time. I am taking my time right now because we are moving this summer. I am trying to mock it up by buying all correct parts right now. I will really dig into the mechanicals after that!
