1944 GPW 161784

Post by Myers » Mon Jan 16, 2017 3:31 pm

I bought this jeep almost a year ago, and was finally able to pick it up. While it isn't in the best shape, it's better than my previous project, and it is extremely original and not too bubba'd. This is going to be a very long thread with lots of pictures, as I am going to document each nut and bolt as I disassemble it. I've already found some interesting details, ie the dipstick is OD Green with no trace of Ford Grey. More to follow!

Great find! I look forward to your digging into the details.

For casting dates I believe the letter "I" was not used.
Therefore K=October and L=November

Sawbuck,

Thanks for the information. I'll have to do a little more research on casting codes.

Two car,

You should see it in person! ;)

It still has the Radio Power Box installed with the conduit and hopefully the cable going to the starter switch. That is rare in these old jeeps. Very nice find.

Amazing find, Boone. Congrats.
Apparently even the electrical components seems to be the original ones!
Very good luck finding the hood numbers, Army and Navy.
Enjoy the project... Im sure it will be one of the best GPW seen out there once finished.

Fantastic find! Hope to see more photos when your restoration goes along. I see your 1943 Ford GPW is really close to mine! Cool! Take care :)
