Found! A "Cover Girl" that would make Hugh Heffner drool
"Cover Girl" was found near the old Winnemucca air base in Nevada. After several years of collecting original parts, I think it's now time for the preservation process to begin.

Below are white surplus markings above the passenger side step. Can anyone decipher the remaining characters? Over a year ago, I found a Gee member with similar markings on his MV, but I lost the link to his post.

Bolts for rear topbow brackets are marked -- same with the grab handles but with varying script styles.

Pintle hook bolts are unmarked. The driver-side of the bottom jaw has the "Ford" script.

Last pics for tonight . . .
The jerry can tray has the 42-B-22590 marking, with E.A. bolts? I've only seen E.A. bolts in the steering rods.

Very nice Dexter! Preserved in that dry Nevada climate, great find.

This is the way I love the jeeps the most! And I love to read that you are planning preservation and not total restoration. In my opinion jeeps like this are not supposed to get a total restoration, then you just destroy history. You have got a sweet jeep and I hope we can get to see more pictures in the future!

As an 79 old jeep person who has own my slat since I958 I feel compelled to suggestion the following: Lightly clean and leave as is. You will have many who will thank you over time. Great find!

Very nice example, unbelievable condition, looks like she was stored somewhere for decades.macaddict23 wrote:"Cover Girl" was found near the old Winnemucca air base in Nevada.
But, when you mentioned Nevada, test site just popped in my head.
I would use Geiger counter, just for own safety, you never knows where those old military were served.
I am serious in this.
DOE and NNSA probably did their job properly, but old military scrap sites are target nowadays for those who are hunting and trading vintage parts. We have example from Ukraine, based on satellite and site pics, abandoned military vehicles and equipment used in Chernobyl area are quite teared off.
Of course, this doesn't mean nothing to your jeep, but it's better to mention that.
