Nick - The body will be hard i think. Especially the back panel which is "wavy" it is not straight. Maybe a metal guy feels differently. I don't know. All 4 wheels are in great condition. Flawless really.

Now i gotta get the grease and the mud off.

Philip - I got the Slatty from the US.

Small progress over the weekend.

Removed the generator support bracket. and the clamps that hold the radiator hose. I was expecting the radiator to be empty but the moment i removed the hose , coolant gushed out. I guess the one big positive out of that is the radiator does not leak.

Removed the radiator. Was a bit of a hard job. Took a lot of WD40 and heat. But i finally managed it.

I also noticed a strange 0 mark on the cross member. Maybe it is a common thing , I am not sure.

Some photos.

Hello Gindi - Thanks for your constant input.

I actually suspect it is a G and not an O

Followed my usual method of applying WD 40 over the week and trying to remove some parts over the weekend.

Removed the Water Pulley , the generator splash shield and discovered that the radiator cap is actually a nice F mark cap that i can use on my other Jeep.

The Water pulley had three unmarked bolts (original in my opinion) and a long A Tr marked bolt.

The Splash shield had Tr 20 marked bolts.

Question - Is this the correct Water pulley or it is after market? I have tried to attach a photo with Part number. Also does the fan seem correct?

Note - for some reason the photos are not orienting correctly - Not sure why

Attempting to highlight some of the bolt markings on the Jeep.

One photo is from a distance to provide perspective of where the bolt is and then the bolt itself.

Hi All

Some progress with the Jeep.

With Bill M's help, was able to remove the engine. Removed the cross member. Drained differential oil.

Then got around to stripping the rest. For a first timer I must say it was daunting but I got there in the end.

1. Removed 4 wheels, removed shocks. The Cotter pins were too hard to get without removing the wheels.

2. Put Wheels back , removed the U Clamps holding the axles and the springs. Man they were hard work with socket spanners but i eventually got there :D

3. Once the axles were "free" - removed the leaf springs.

4. Rolled Axles out with the wheels.

5. Removed wheels again

6. Loaded axles on stand.

I am sure there are much more efficient ways to do this but this is what I could figure out. Now the strip is almost out of the way I am not sure what to do now !

The frame is very solid - no rust or cracks, but bent. I will need to get it straightened.

Any thoughts let me know guys

Well done Richie!

Great job documenting the finer details of this beautiful jeep! Thanks for sharing taking the time to share them with us. I know it can be a pain to take happy snaps of each bolt and post it up, but there is a growing group of people here who absolutely love that detail and are truly appreciative of those who take the time to do it!

Good work (and well done Bill too!).

Thank you for your kind words Ian. Next up is the rear axle. Again a first time for me. Let's see how I go. Will post pictures of the bolts etc.

Richie,

Get start to the tear down. Documenting everything, and I mean everything, will make the rebuild a lot easier. I have an older Digital SLR i keep in the garage just for that purpose (don't want grease on the new Canon camera).

I'll be starting on MB130890 soon, tub off first, and then the chassis.

Removed Rear Axles - The Scallop axles (F marked and in great condition for my Ford Script) came out easy. The How To Articles on the other Jeep website were very important because I had no idea to do the job.

I removed the plate to check the gears. They have wear but the teeth look ok. I tried to remove the assembly but failed.

There is a lot of Black paint , OD and what i think are traces of red I am still unsure what should be the axle primer colour.

Some photos below of the
1. Ring Gear. Teeth seem ok but there I notice some wear and tear (or pitting)
2. Brake Drum. The brake lining was non existent. Whoever drove the jeep last was driving without brakes !!

The task today was bumper work. Bubba had welded a super heavy bumper , to make matters worse - the lower part of the gusset had been rolled into this weld to add more structural integrity to the weld - after cutting away the heavy guts - this big piece of iron that was welded on by bubba had to be removed -

The plan was to remove the bigger bits of the bumper , then grind / cut the remaining "slabs" of iron that formed part of the structure.

After the big bumper was cut off - the next job was to remove the thick slabs of the weld still attached to the frame horn
