Thanks, i've decided windscreen down driving above 5mph isnt for me! The windscreen is a godsend, going to get half doors too to stop the wind whipping round the side.

Here are a few photos for the moment to cover some bits i've been working on. My marker lights had no filters and so I had to buy a whole set of marker light (very nice btw) just to get the filters, need to give those dirty lenses a clean

Masking up for touch up spraying

Fitting of vacuum wipers, the one one the right has the post war cover fitted so I swapped it over to the correct cover after this

Had to bend up my own clips which took a while to get right, for some reason I put this clip in the wrong place but whatever as there seems to be a lot of variability in clip placement for the vacuum wipers

Image

My starter motor decided to stop working after a few miles, tracked it down to the brushes and found the wear on the right, some brushes were ok but some had worn very strangely so replaced them and motor worked again! When I was working on the starter originally I thought the brushes would be ok, turns out they weren't.

Heres my lovely jerrycan bracket, even has an original grease pencil number on it!

Repaired my three stud carrier back to a 2 stud carrier, thanks Bubba!

My 'new' WW2 Carb, very worn on the choke shaft and throttle butterfly (not throttle shaft?) for some reason

Your windshield wiper motors look real nice. Any chance you can post a pic of the vac line running up the windshield drivers side from the curve to the top ? I am contemplating going your route for I have acquired two original working motors and those cheap repop rubber hand wiper blades that are on my jeep keep splitting. My jeep is also a 45 GPW. Serial # 269325.

No Problem, here are some quick and dirty pics. I used some artistic licence when fitting the motors, firstly my jeep should not be fitted with vacuum wipers but as I had the motors already and because I live in the UK where it rains alot and we have many windy dangerous roads, I didn't fancy my chances hand operating the wipers in the rain and wet whilst changing down gear and turning a corner so vacuum wipers it is!
As you probably know there were retrofit wiper kits and factory fitted wipers. I have chosen factory fitted but have used copper pipe instead of steel as that is all I could get hold of. If you were replicating a retrofit routing you have artistic licence in how you bend and fit the pipes just like the GI's would have had, if you're replicating the factory fit then you have less artistic licence, although I note that on the factory fit jeeps I have now seen, the clip location still seems a bit random.
On my jeep the vertical pipe I have bent is not quite correct for a factory fit I think, it should be a little further inboard and needs to bend around the windscreen bracket, I decided not to do this for ease of build and because I quite like the straight line but if you look at some original factory fit pipes you will see they should have a bend here, if you are doing a retrofit then its up to you what you do!
Cheers
Matt

Thanks Matt for the pic's. Looks to me like you have a fine jeep by the condition of it. Keep her rolling. 8)

Thanks Chaps, much appreciated,

WW2 Carb rebuilt and fitted, seems to run fine on first test but will get down to nitty gritty after I solve the issue that the brass elbow leaks where it screws into the fuel bowl, tried another one and it did the same thing. Not sure what to do here...

Used loctite to secure the elbow in the stripped out lid, seems to be working well. Was able to test the carb today and its a really good one, started straight up with factory settings, drove it 10 miles and it ran great, no flat spots and was putting and spitting less than previous carb so really happy!

Thanks Beers, really happy to have an original WW2 carb on the jeep (not that having a postwar makes any difference of course!)

Hi all,
Took the jeep out on a 35 miles round trip to the guys at Joes motorpool today. I was really impressed with the setup they have going on over there. It's really nice to see good quality repro items with a good price point being produced in the UK, nice guys too with a passion for jeeps and producing good accurate parts, whats not to like!
It was also very interesting to see their new repro WO carbs, impressive work (I do like my original though ;) )

Apparently it was useful to have my GPW on hand for reference!

The K98 did well for 370 miles but Its a bit heavy on the windshield and not particularly accurate so its been replaced by its smaller enemy!
Think it looks pretty neat in there

Not long till D day now (wheel purchasing day!) Just drove with canvas for the first time and love it, really atmospheric.
I have spent the last week replacing the rear prop shaft yoke as the original was too worn and the needle bearings were spinning in it, found a nice NOS replacement for that. I also took the rear diff apart and replaced the spider as the old one was too worn and I couldnt put up with the clunking when you took your foot off the gas, nice NOS gears went in there and all is well now!
