Hi h1zelman,

Great looking GPW ! I see you are referring to it as a 09-42. Do you have the data plate showing this date ?

Did you find a " S " after the number on the hood or perhaps on the side of the cowl in line with the hood number.

Can you post or PM to me a photo of the frame serial number stamping ? Going by the hood number the serial number should be near high side 58xxx or low side 59xxx.

Hello!

The frame number is 64414.

the original data plates i dont have. the delivery date i have from the sheet Hood numbers - delivery dates.
the referenz delivery date so is the 10 september 42

and the "S" is paintet on both sides in the side panel, not on the hood.

i think that the jeep has an incident during the war time, so al the stars are paintet two times, may be that wos chanched the frame.

Odd - The hood number and serial do not really match and having a script body in September while possible is rare. Seeing the frame serial number stamping may clear up some of the mysteries here.

The frame stamping appears to be a restamp. It will be interesting to see what shows up after completely cleaning this section of the frame.

hello!
the frame is already polished and there is no other number stamped.
so im thinking really tat the jeep before shipping in europe has a incident and get be n repaired, probably with a new frame.
so the litller star on the hood there is the original an the big one on the centet of the hood was painted after repainting the car.
so the right hood number ist the original blu number and the left one is painted in white.
but the hood and the body are from the same car and jut this is verry difficult to find here in italy.
probably i dont go to repaint the car.i think that i paint it with trasparent colore.

good night.

Hello,

Do you have a bigger version of the frame photo above ? When the one above is enlarged the details become too fuzzy to see.

This is excellent, a fine survivor. What did you use to preserve the paint surface, some kind of clear varnish?

Hello!

At first i had to remove 4 coats of varnish (one from every decade).
After i used a 1K polyurethane varnish and to protect a creep oil

Tom W.

I enlarged the frame number also and it does get fuzzy, but I could see the "44"" stamping and it appears they are the open sided types so-to-speak like the ones used in Europe.

I would say that the restamping of the frame was done in Europe but when is unknown.

hello,

so now im back from the garage to updating any pics,

juck lutz, you have right seen the open type of number 4. before the number it is visible verry bad the stamp GPW.
the jeep after the war was running from the italian finance police.
a theory could be that the number was overstamped this time for better visibility.

at the moment im using a lot of reproduction-parts to restore the jeep. time by time i would to chance this parts....

if you are intrested i would show you the story of restoring the jeep from this

Heinz,

Wow !!!
What a great jeep you have created from the first picture !!
I would say your jeep is a true "Originalist" restoration of very nice quality.

Your jeep looks like it just came from the front lines, nice and original .
You have preserved History with your hard work, and I hope you enjoy your fine jeep and
drive it all around Italy for everyone to enjoy !
Beautiful !!!

Raymond

The jeep was dismantled in the 80's and has become kept from then on in parts. I have 2007 ehr get into him. without a closer look had him tucked him in the basement, where he waited until 2013:
