I have been lurking on the boards for quite awhile but picked up an MB yesterday. I believe it was mfg in 1945. The engine serial number is 540989 which I think is probably correct. It also has a composite frame. The body seems pretty solid but the floor will have to be replaced.
I am tying to see if there are any numbers on the hood but there seems to be patches of brown that go straight to metal and then other patches that go from brown to yellow to a gray so maybe it was a USN jeep? I have also found Olive Drab on various parts where the brown isn't as thick or they missed an area.

You have some pretty good original parts there, spare tire support, rear seat, pintle hitch...often long gone....gotta be the most brutal gas tank I've seen ever....

Thank you for your comments. I have a couple of questions.
Is that rear seat correct for a 45 MB? I thought it should have a hinge on it.
I haven't been brave enough to open the gas tank yet.
It also has a Houdaille Hershey Air Cleaner. I think it may be correct for a M38 but probably not a MB.
Still learning and reading...

Welcome to the G onaway!
I second Ralph's comments. You have a lot of parts on there that are often long gone. You are correct about the air cleaner. The rear seat I think you are correct too. I am not aware of rear seats not having hinges at all on wartime jeeps (though I stand to be corrected). More photos including dash and engine.....

Looks like someone installed a CJ-2a,3a early 3b Harrison heater. They must have had to remove the glove box to do that. If the heater works, there is a lot of interest for those on the CJ site here on the G, and also on the CJ-2a Forums site.

Here are some photos of the heater. I don't know if there is any value and it will need to be taken apart and rebuilt. I did shake the mouse droppings out.

Here is an update of my teardown process. Everything was pretty rusty so using lots of Kroil to soak the hardware prior to removal.
I have removed the tub and engine and hope to get the transmission and transfer case off tomorrow so I can then start on getting down to the frame only.
The driver's side rear wheel is set back about 4" from where it should be. You can see in the side photo how much off it is.
I cleaned some of the grease and mud off the top of the transmission and x-fer case and found an extra vent hole. It looks to be about .22 in size but I am just guessing on that.
The main drive gear has a few broken teeth but hopefully the rest of the gears are not damaged or too corroded to use but I will find out later this fall when I start digging into it.
I'll take some more detailed photos of the frame once I get everything off.

Looks like a CJ2A seat. They were not hinged.

Here is an update on some of the things I have completed since last posting. I broke the screen on my camera so I will have to get a new one so I can see what I am looking at.
I have removed the leaf springs and as you can see in the photos they were pretty rusted. The only ones I had trouble getting off were the left hand thread shackles. I let them soak in a can of old motor oil and it seemed to have soaked into the threads. Thanks to everyone who suggested ideas for getting them loose.
The centering pin on the driver's side back leaf spring was missing the centering pin which explains why it was canted to the back.
the drive train was removed from the frame which allowed me to remove the bumper. I started to grind it off but decided the frame rail would have to be replaced back to the cross member and maybe farther so I decided to cut it off. I was pretty happy to get rid of it as it dropped about 30 lbs off the weight of the frame.
I will try and get a new camera tomorrow and take some more photos of the frame over the weekend outside.

Sucks Bubba jacked up your front bumper gussets. I had to reconstruct my front frame rails to some degree also. I see Bubba also did his slick repair job on your pioneer section like he did on mine too. That indent just looked too unsightly for him to have to bother with, so much easier just to weld a flat patch in. Thanks for going to the trouble to upload your photos. i know from experience it can be a pain, but it sure is nice following someone's progress and encouraging them.

Thanks for you comments bogus. I hope these help someone else who may be going through a similar problem. Plus I get to tap into the knowledge base of everyone on the forums.
So I have spent the last few weeks getting my son ready for college so not much work going on. I did get the bubba additions removed from the frame and have decided to order some replacement parts due to the corrosion at the cross member. I finished removing the copper fuel line and counted about 13 places I will have to replace some metal on the frame. Most of the frame is pretty solid.
I measured across the frame and it seems to be equal at the front and back up to where the machine gun mount is and the engine mounts are located at. It was a half inch farther out where the transmission cross member is located. I don't if that is a big worry or not?
I also spent some time on trying to un-seize the pistons using electrolysis. The photos don't really show but it really cleaned up the inside of the piston and it is very smooth. I was hoping it would help free up the pistons but no movement yet. I am currently cleaning up the inside and will post those photos in a few days.
The goop in the 3rd and 4th photo is a mixture of oil, grease, and the corrosion that has been removed from the surface of the cylinder wall.
