Re: 1943 MB 213301
Hi Beers! Do you have the hood number for your MB? I have MB 213689 delivered on the same day and was able to find the number 20307087... Just wondering if yours was close to it... Thanks, Jon
Jon S.

Re: 1943 MB 213301
Hey Jon, these two MB's are close! Even if mine was the first one and yours the last that day, that's almost 400, a busy Monday for the inspectors!
Unfortunately, I don't have the original hood #, when I got this MB it had a Ford style hood (also had the holes for the grease gun that came later) so wasn't original. I may take guidance off yours, I guess that would put my hood number at around 20306700?

Re: 1943 MB 213301
Talking about step plates . The step plate that has no vertical flange is the Ford body step plate which has all downward facing edges and was separate from the tub and spot welded in position . MY GPW 67835 DOD 9 24 42 has this step plate style . I in my ignorance I thought all step plates were like this and repaired the ACM 1 cowl to suit ,DRAT !!! . The only step plate I could get in UK was the ACM 1/2 style . I could not bring myself to chop a hole in my lovely cowl repair to accommodate the vertical flange so I " converted" the step plates to Ford style and fitted them . I am using a ACM 1 tub as a stop gap as the Ford body is beyond dire . Bubba and braised shut all exterior holes and buried the tub in bondo , bless him . The floors are double skinned and both layers are rotted out now . It is my plan to re floor it and refit it but that will be a lot later !!!

That's unfortunate Captain, sorry to hear. I think Ron used to have some NOS ford gpw steps, not sure if he still does. Bubba does like his jeeps "preserved" in Bondo and extra layers of sheet metal, doesn't he

Re: 1943 MB 213301
Lots of little jobs on the tub now. Fixing the top part of the cowl where the radiator brace rod attaches. It was bashed in pretty good. I pounded it out and am replacing both parts of the flange, but the hole still looks too far back.
Can someone with an ACM1 tub give a measurement from the edge of the lip to this hole for the radiator rod? (Either edge or center).
From photos it looks like the hole Is farther back on ACM1 tubs than the GPW or Comp/ACM2 tubs, but that might just be camera angles.

Paul that's a tricky piece to work,layered.etc...thought I'd send a reference pic.The Bubba hole seems to be about right to align the new one to...
Taking these photos sure does show where we were skimpy with the top coat...

Re: 1943 MB 213301
That clear picture helps Ralph, thanks. It was a little tricky at first getting the bottom piece to line up on the back side, but once that was welded in, the top wasn't too bad. Just spot welded it as the photo showed and now getting the hole placement worked out before I finish welding it and the old hole up.
Hey, that top coat isn't light, the old girl is just showing all her colors A little red oxide here and there not bad

Well, not completely perfect as the area behind the radiator brace hole is still a little beat up, but certainly better than what was there.
And the new hat channel are installed, front floor repairs done, and new fuel tank well is in. Quite a difference on the layout underneath on the ACM1 tubs compared to the Ford and composite/ACM2 tubs. Now just need to install a few screws and nails in the channels to secure the wood filler.

Re: 1943 MB 213301
It's been a while since I've posted, but finally finished up the tub. Didn't make everything smooth, still many dings and waves, after all this girl is almost 75 years old, but I did get all the rust and Bubba's welding taken out.
Almost all of it is original WWII sheet metal. The exceptions being the steps, rear panel, tool box lids, gas tank well, RH panel right below the axe sheath, and a handful of small areas on the floor and the the front sides where it was rusted out or Bubba had been "active with a flux core welder..."
First the primer:
And then the OD:
Edited to include the non-original sheet metal added.

Re: 1943 MB 213301
Thanks guys, as you both know it sure is nice to get the tub taken care of!
Ralph, just got the wiring harness on, will post a few more photos. Now just cleaning up the handles and little parts to get the most out of it being on the rotisserie still. Tempting to just put it on now!

Re: 1943 MB 213301
Tried to match the tinning. I used some paint stripper over the tinning spots on the firewall and you can see the original tinning as well as outlines of the tape the factory put over it to mask prior to painting.
Also in the tub where the filterette mounts.
After the tub was sandblasted, I re-tinned those spots and applied the tape. Included the locations on the firewall and hood hinge, as well as for the filterette and under the tub where the transfer case bond strap mounts.
