Yeah, I just grabbed what I had, and had him blast them all. After sand blasting we determined that the other half of some were not worth painting without some repair first.

Hi Jeff,

the body number is the original match to your frame number...

the late engine 576XXX is only 4000 short from being a perfect set...

your DOD is probably 11 APRIL 1945

hood number would have been about 207009XX to 2027011XX

I COLLECT WILLYS MB NUMBERS! Please send me your Frame, Engine, Body, Hood numbers and DOD. Thanks!

I have done up two WWII jeeps the last year but they where in a much better state than Bam Bam before I started so for you that would have been a "walk in the park".
Today I finaly got started on CJ-2A :D ...........yea I know.....it took some time but now I am focused on getting her ready.

Hi Frank,

Glad to hear that you are back on the 2A.

I haven't done any work on Bam Bam this winter because I've hardtop many top orders and I have had to give most of my attention to Gen'l Willys. I'll be getting back into Bam Bam here after the Spring Reunion.

Where are your pics?

Turns out my rear axle was from a GPA, or at least made for a GPA:

Notice that it has a flange at the snout of the hogs head:

Image

..... it also has two sets of spring perches. the outer unused perches are broken off on the back side and do not have a pad for the axle snubber:

I went ahead and put my winter wheels on so that I can roll him around:

I'm not as far along as I wish I was but at least now I can't pick Bam Bam up and carry him anymore.

Well, I don't think I know what I'm doing anymore. As I clean, rebuild, and paint parts, I get more conflicted about removing the original paint .... and even rust. I know. Stupid Image. Anywho, I was going to use my '42 MB motor but since I have been running it in Gen'l Willys, it has started consuming its fair share of oil so at the least it will need a rebuild. For this reason, I have decided to use my GPW motor for now. This motor runs but I have not driven it. I've just idled it in my other MB but since I want to get this vehicle going ASAP, I'm going to use it at least for now.

Image

Here is a pic of the motor with original grey paint and some OD paint where it had been repainted at some time. As I was cleaning this engine, I just can't bring myself to repaint it just yet so I've decided to leave it as is just for now. One unique thing about this engine is it has a rebuild tag:

This stamp is behind the water pump:

The motor has a civilian head and I have a GPW head to replace it with:

I don't have a calipers at the moment but judging by this pic, it has been severely milled in the past.
