Jeep Willys MB SN° 338873

I need some more information on my "new" Jeep Willys MB.
The serial number is 338873 so it might be produced in june '44. (does anyone know which factory?)
It was also used in the French army.

Does anyone have an info for the hood number? or any other info on my jeep.

Congratulations on your purchase, and posting on G503. May there be many more!

Serial number 338873 is a June 1944 Serial number, and the hood regn number will be between 20510000 and 20614000.

All Willys jeeps were assembled in Toledo, Ohio, and your jeep was Contract 5.

There will be some feature specific to your jeep such as,

# the hood will be the GPW type with a Grease Gun Bracket.

# the Body will be a ACM2 type, with the Ford style firewall and Willys style Round toolbox lock indents.

# Type 2 suppression (no under dash filter)

# Rotary Light Switch.

# Reflectors are the Round CB.

is there a possibilty to get to know the unite in wihich it served, and to know what to mark on the front bumper?

The only way to know what unit it served with is to get lucky and find unit markings on either the front bumper or rear bumpers. Does it have a Willys MB engine block (casting # 638632)? If so what serial number is stamped behind the oil filter and what date is cast behind/below the starter?

Absolutly no luck to find any marking on the bumper, thats because it was surely repainted in the french army...

the motor block is a Willys MB block, 638632 will send the serial number later, because its'being refurbished right now

I have MB 340503 and the data plate says it's DoD was 6-8-44.

This might narrow down your jeep to being nearer the beginning of June. Hope it helps. Congratulations on your "new" jeep.

While it's being refurbished have them look for the machining date. It's usually stamped on the face that the oil pan mates to near the #3 or #4 journal bearing.

This Jeep must have gone through a rebuild at some time. Body # is too high for a June '44 Serial #, Engine # is too low.

Probably French army rebuilt jeep

Body 234193 was made on 1st week of May 45

Engine 351288 come from mid January 44.

Correct range body for MB 338873 is 67000 +/- 1500 and around engine 419000
