Re: Fat Albert's '43 MB 217048 Project Thread
Congrats on the sanblaster, Dutch! I did some research on my blaster since it was the same as the one from the inlaws you borrowed. I found that the company went ouf out of business in 2002, but found a website that had parts for the blaster we have. I think I bought mine around 1994, but it came with a lot of spares and still works well. If it sat around with wet sand, that would really have doen a number on it.
Anyway, I would recommend staying away from playground sand. If you read the fine print it should say "not for sandblasting" due to silicosis...lung disease. I'm not an expert by any means, but from what I have read it is best to stay away from that stuff. With a supplied air system it may be ok. I use the Black Diamond (coal slag) which is a washed product and has very little free silica. Plus it doesn't attract moisture as much as sand. I purchased three bags for $25 at tractor supply to blast my tub bottom. I layed a tarp down and recyled a lot and only used two bags to blast my entire tub floor. It is a little more expensive than playground sand, but may be safer in the long run. In any event, use a respirator! Just my thoughts on the matter FWIW. Like I said, I'm not an expert,
Cy looks like he's filling Bear's shoes...I mean paws, well. Boy your truck looks exactly like mine! I thought I was looking at my rig when I first saw the photos. It is fun looknig at the old Jeeps out there. I check 'em out when I can. Hate to see 'em rusting away. I looked at a '44 Willys a few months back that the guy's father made into a nice hunting rig. He wanted $8.000! I told him for a WWII Jeep guy it was worth maybe $2,000 due to all of the modifications and possible $3,500 to a hunter. I see it's still there. I doubt it sells for quite a while if ever. He also had a Bamtam trailer that went with it, but it was one rust molocule form coming completely apart!
Keep up the good work!!

Re: Fat Albert's '43 MB 217048 Project Thread
Thanks Zeph... I have to admit, it was the price difference that pulled me in on the sand. What can I say, I'm a cheap skate! The blast media at TS here was almost $10 a bag versus the $3 for the sand. But it's looking like I'd been better off going with the blast from TS to begin with! The sand has bigger flakes in it that I'm assuming is the silica you are talking about... It is what keeps stopping the tip up. Course it's probably a blessing in disguise... If the blaster had worked properly I probably would have burned my compressor motor up. Mercy it's always something! I'm going tomorrow to get a bigger breaker. One of these days I may actually get something done on this jeep!
I heard of another jeep... supposedly a 43 MB... with an extra tub for $1500 last week. I don't have the money right now but it got gone fast anyways. Like I said above, it would be nice to have the time AND the money to have multiple projects going! Oh well... We can dream right?

Re: Fat Albert's '43 MB 217048 Project Thread
I found my new toy store! I got a call from a friend asking if I wanted to ride with him to a jeep guy this weekend...most glad I got the chance to go! It is only about an hour away and man was it like walking in a candy store! Now if only I could find me a third or fourth job to pay for me to play! This is some of what the jeep guy has laying around...
Two buildings piled with parts on shelves... Hanging on walls... Leaning in corners... Talk about a sensory overload!
Outside...
My friend said this was a something 170 ambulance? Can't remember the numbers!
Frame for another ambulance...
Trailer... WWII?
Finally found a MUTT!
I got more but you get the picture I'm sure! Spent a couple hours wondering around looking at everything... The only thing I bought was a TM! Talk about restraint!

Does anybody know if Dexter... aka macaddict is still on the G? I tried sending him a pm but can't find him listed anymore. I am looking for pics of the white jeep he did a preserve job on... removed the white and brought out a gorgeous MB back. I found the thread but the pics are gone.

Steve

I too would like an update. It's like reading a book and putting it down half way through. Hope all is well.
You're only a state away from me and we're in the same spot in the restoration. I can fully appreciate what you're going through dealing with the rust mites in these east coast, southern MVs.
