Got the oversize throttle shaft.
Now it seems my base is off a CJ, so need to solve this also.

In the meantime, fabricated the cover for the early filterette.

Who can help me in this.

I have an issue with my Am-meter.
It looks like the poles are swapped, but I don't know how to check this.

What happens:
- when the engine is not running
I put the lights on, and the am-meter is pointing to the right ( + side )
The more electrics I put on, the more the meter turn's to the right ( + side)

- when the engine is running
Stationary, the am-meter is pointing to the left ( - side )
When putting the throttle, the am-meter is pointing fully to the left ( - side )
By turning the lights on etc, the meter will point more and more to the right (+ side )

This all seems like the am-meter is connected wrongly, but according the pictures I found / the scheme on the www. / the lenghts of the cables, it is not possible to connect it differently.

Looking forward, the black wires are connected on the right side, the red wires are connected to the left side.

When can be wrong, or are the poles swapped?

Thanks for any thoughts

Regards
Frank

Just a guess, but is the jeep set up for negative ground (negative earth, as some say)?
Is it true real Jeeps have flat fenders?
Alone cannot you it resist!

I don't know, as far as I know I set it up as per the manual.
The -pole of the battery is connected to the frame.
The +pole is going to the starter switch where the take off is taken which goes to the filterette.

I have another am-meter which I will try also, just to double check the am-meter itself.

Very handsome Willys...looks ready to go.I like the rear view mirror. What are the small tab-like pieces under/at the front bumper?
At my DMV when I applied for licence plates,I (correctly) stated that it was a 43 Willys quarter-ton truck.I made no mention of jeep or military.Though I would have answered factually, they did not ask further.A little lucky,yes...

The small tap pieces are to mount the licence plate.
Thanks for the comment :D

The Willys has been to the Dutch Road Authorities, and luckilly without any issues, it has been registered.
Now waiting for my plate number to get it on the road.

I also got all the markings on and the antenna bracket.

The markings and antenna bracket have been chosen and inspired on the below 2 pictures.
Both are from the Korea war, so I deliberately chose something not to reflect a WW2 area...

Rests me, everybody who helped me out during my restoration; THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH!
Also for everybody how supported me to offer parts and assistance.

Even with the advice, as you can read in the beginning of my thread, I dicided to buy the Willys.
It took me 7,5 year to get it back on the road.

Next up: my 1/4t trailer ;)

Nice, but you didn't drive for more then 7 years during your restoration.
What I should do : spent more money on buying a complete drivable Jeep and enjoy it driving from the first day.
Life is too short.

You have a point, life is short. As we have different outlooks, you could be happier with a more complete vehicle.I have heard and read where guys have wished that they had gone that way after a long restoration,
Speaking for my 8.5 yr. rebuild, similar to Frank's...no regrets-even with cost,do-overs,etc.,the time working on it was as sweet as when I finally was able to drive it.I would wager that many G503 guys are of the same mind.Maybe there is a project that is a shorter trip for you,but either way you'll likely enjoy both rides.Best of luck to you either way.
Frank, the Korean war markings are great to see.The UN connection is not often recalled.Well done.

Simple solution....

Buy two jeeps....one you can drive away and not needing anything much to stay that way. The second is the one you restore. That way if it takes ten years...you have a jeep to drive all the time.

As they say, "getting there is half the fun" and the process of restoring a jeep, especially if you choose to do a factory resto is a journey unto itself!

Hello,

Thanks guys.

I think not everybody has a Jeep solely to drive it.
Looking at myself I get a lot of rewards from the restoration itself.
Anyway I hope to enjoy the driving as much as the rebuild.

And indeed, life is too short, ... to have no jeep at all ;)

I'm pretty happy with the markings indeed.
I haven't even thought really about the UN connection but you're indeed right!
My idea was more to have not the usual markings which did not particularly needed to be ww2 related.

Thanks
