Hello Michael,

Based on the latest data there were still odd things going on with the Dearborn production, hood numbers and DoDs in Feb.,'42. Newest estimate would be in the range of 2055580 through 2055735.

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here so greetings from sunny England are in order.
Anyhow I now have my first jeep, its a 1943 ford GPW, the middle data plate is missing but the chassis number is good, it is 108104, on the receipt it says it was made in May 1943.
It looks like the body has never been removed from the chassis and still has the wood in the hat channels.
All of the body pannels are stamped with 'F'
Is there anywhere else I can look as to a clue as to its origin and history ?
Cheers.
Skel.

Welcome !,

Posting a good photo of the complete frame serial number stamping would be a big in telling the origin.

Hi tom.
I will hopefully get a photo next week and post it.
I guess a 43 GPW doesn't really class as a VEP,,
Cheers.

Hello Jon,

From my GPW studies and databases, I believe your GPW 108104 should have come from the Louisville, Ky. assembly plant . The most likely DoD should be mid April, '43.

The good news is that Jim Gilmore has a copy of the Ford shipping records of the Louisville plant in the spring of '43. These records show how the GPW was shipped, when it was shipped, the original hood number, and the type tires used (not the brand used ). These records do not give the DoD of the GPW but the DoD has to be before the shipping date.

Wow cheers Tom.
Now, being a relative newbie here, I'm not sure who Jim Gilmore is,
Hope I'm not regarded as being ignorant or anything.
Any idea as to how I can contact him please ?
Cheers.

Do you have #287 on your list? If not, you should add it--all numbers matching.

I'd be curious to see the list to-date.

Hey Chuck.
Yes, I have had emails from Jim, (very helpful and knowledgeable guy)
Luckily he has all the shipping info for the Louisville plant for that time.
So I now know my DOD, hood number, engine build date, boxcar number, shipping contract number, all from official documents which is absolutely cool as..
I managed to find a proper shovel today also, for £15...
Chuck can you send me a photo of your GPW please ?
Cheers.
