Sounds like you got a great GPW. A photo of the data plate should help to tell the assembly plant and come up with a very close hood number to the original.

I am the lucky owner of a VEP GPW 6088 3-17-42 original brass data plate , matching engine and chassis number , all is there including a rare original windshield frame "f " marked
restoration of this Jeep has been done with a lot of care

Hello Jean,

Can you post or email to me a photo of GPW 6088's data plate. I believe the small box above the serial number should either have 1/4-T or 6088 stamped in the box. If it is either one of these than your GPW was accepted on the second day of assembly at one of two assembly plants. It should be no problem estimating a very close hood number if your GPW's hood number is unknown.

By the way GPW 12102 had a hood number of 2066889. Seems a bit out of sequence but that's what was on the hood when I found it. I sold the jeep years ago to a guy in Florida with the hood number painted on it but never knew what happened to it after I sold it. Any of you Florida folk ever see this unit running around?

Hi Leo,

Sorry for not getting back before now with your other posts.

GPW 12102 should have come from the Dallas, Tx. assembly plant. The hood number 2066889 is in line for a Dallas GPW with a DoD of about April 7. '42.

GPW 2647 should have come from the Dearborn, Mi. assembly plant. Odds things were happening with the hood numbers on the first GPW contract at Dearborn. So for right now all I can give is a range of 2055425 through 2055525.

I'm in the process of purchasing GPW 2647, DoD 2-26-42 from Leo Jankowski. I believe it may be already accounted for in this thread. Since the original registration number is unknown, can someone post an estimate? It should be in the 205XXXX, correct?

Hood number 2056143, I believe, should be with-in about 75 numbers plus or minus.
