I take it that 07/03/1942 is 07/March/42. If the hood number is the original one to GPW 3893 then the DoD should be more like March 27 but on the other hand serial number 3893 should have a DoD close to the March 7 date you have listed. Could the hood number have been 2056746 instead of 2058246?

Can you post or email to me a photo of the data plate from GPW 3893?

Not VEP, but pretty early. 1942 (December 7) GPW 83753, hood number (original) 20195545. Name (original) was/is "Dry Run." I know the history from 1947, when my grandmother bought it surplus, so I am quite certain of the above information. I was brought home from the hospital in "Jeepie" (the family name for the vehicle) when I was born at West Point, NY in 1949! I learned to drive on the vehicle starting at the age of six (proficient by eight). I took it over in 1975, and restored it with the help of Ray Cowdery (author of "All American Wonder"). 83753 has been back to near-perfection since the mid-80s.
