GPW 12102

Post by gpwmke » Tue Jan 01, 2008 9:06 am

GPW 12102 may no longer exist but I'm sending this along for historical reference. I canabalized this unit many years ago or should I say blended it with another GPW in my dumber days. I still have the piece of frame rail with GPW 12102 stamped on it: and I stripped it for parts as the frame was shot, I had no title for it and the body had succumbed years ago to Wisconsin road salt. I kept the hood which I believe still had that metal air deflector on it, the machine crews across the front of the hood gave it's location away when I first saw it. Finally I found the hood number on it which was 206689. Back in the early 90's, I sold it to a guy from Florida at the Chicago convention. I had no DOD for this unit as the data plate was missing. Perhaps some of you Florida folk may have seen this jeep. Best wishes; Leo

Hello Leo,

Ray Cowdery had the hood number as 2066889. This should have been a Dallas assembled GPW with a DOD of April 3, 42. Ford did not use the air deflector till fall of 43 so someone must have added it at one time or the hood had been change and then had GPW numbers put back on.

I would like to see a photo of the frame stamping sometime to add it into my GPW database.

Hello Jeff,

When the serial number data plate is missing I need to see a photo of the frame serial number stamping to give an assembly plant.

GPW 15618 could be either a first or second contract GPW.

Hi Chuck,

Did you find the supression ' S ' on the hood or on the side of the cowl when you uncovered the hood numbers?

Here is one of my buddy's jeeps

The data I have is

frame marking is GPW <-> I582I this marking is on the motor mount and not the frame. The P in GPW is half a letter higher then the G or the W

The data plate has 1/4 t in the mystery box, serial number is 15821 without GPW, weight is 2265, DOD is 4/1/42 and it has manuals 1348 and 1349 stamped on the data plate. The data plate is brass and does not have the script Ford on top of the dataplate. Tom tells me it is a Louisville, Ky jeep with an estimated hood number of 2060150 plus or minus 40 numbers.
