GPW 10,854 has a black Sheller on it and there are no holes in it that I can see. The wheel is in bad shape but salvageable, and I'm almost certain it is original to the vehicle. The vehicle has no data plates but does have matching frame/engine numbers and is in fairly good shape overall though is still missing a few things and still has a couple of bubbafications left to remove. Its down to the frame right now, even a lot of the original paint looks OK.

I'm just restoring a dec '42 GPW that came imported to the UK from Ohio with what looks like a green steering wheel. it has however been painted black which is flaking off in places, has anybody got any good ideas how i can get the black paint off without damaging the wheel underneath? if not I'm going to have to use a repro green? one, hoping this is correct for the age of it. anybody want to correct me?

Tom and others;
Any new insight on these different types of steering wheels? Is there a way of knowing what a particular plant was using at a particular time? My Feb' 42 GPW is a Dearborn vehicle and I am curious what other Dearborn GPW's had on them during the same time frame. Unfortunately, this GPW currently has the late spoke style steering wheel installed...I want to get that fixed!!!

Hi Michael,
Tom and others;
Any new insight on these different types of steering wheels? No. Is there a way of knowing what a particular plant was using at a particular time? Sorta. My Feb' 42 GPW is a Dearborn vehicle and I am curious what other Dearborn GPW's had on them during the same time frame. Black Rubber. Unfortunately, this GPW currently has the late spoke style steering wheel installed...I want to get that fixed!!!
