Drivers Seat Fuel Tank Guard and screws.
I'm just restoring my early small filler hole drivers seat and I now have a new JMP long and short guard available to fit. Should I fit the short guard as that is what was originally fitted or go for the long one? I'm inclined to go with short despite common opinion. Having talked to a few people there is some who believe the short is correct for a VEP.
Also, should I use the 3 round head screws and washers or 3 F script bolts?
Any opinions/thoughts?

Re: Drivers Seat Fuel Tank Guard and screws.
According to Claudes list, 3 Hex bolts with plain washers, no F. I had a look in the Ford Parts List March 1942, and couldn't find any listed

Re: Drivers Seat Fuel Tank Guard and screws.
Thanks gents, I really don't know what to use, it really probably doesn't matter as it's an easy fix either way if I'm wrong. Hex bolts would be easier but the screws appear to be correct for a VEP but no hard and fast proof.
Any thoughts on which shield to use. The badly bent and chewed up original shield/guard is the short type and appears to be original to the F marked seat. I've read many times that Ford only made the seat with the long shield however there are more and more early seats turning up with the short shield.
Dave, I don't suppose the March 42 parts list is available on line? I've got the April version but the March version is more appropriate for my jeep.
Thanks again gents.

Re: Drivers Seat Fuel Tank Guard and screws.
I don't know about that, I know that Jon has the April 42 on Jeepdraw to download, I guess that is where you got yours? My March 42 TM10 1348, like you say is more for you, but i'm sure that they have missed things out. In the April one, Body page 72/73 Floor it lists the 3 bolts, washers nuts and cage retainers. In the March one, the parts list is the same, apart from the 4 items My March TM is not original, it's a photocopy that a friend did for me over 30 years ago.
The shield, not too sure, I have heard that the wood spacer was never used on the GPW.
I don't know what you mean by an Early Ford seat, I know about the early split back MB ones. I know that your GPW is a very early, and quite a differant
animal to mine, you are a lucky guy
Hope that this may have helped you.

Re: Drivers Seat Fuel Tank Guard and screws.
What an idiot I guess that you mean small vs large gas tank holes?

Yes that's it Dave, it's the small mouth seat with the short shield. The shield looks to be original to the seat but as You say, the belief is that Ford never used the short shield and wood block and that they used the long shield from start to finish. Thanks for your input.

I have an original small mouth gas tank seat on my early Oct. 42 GPW. I have to use the wood spacer to make it fit over the gas tank on my GPW. To the best of my knowledge the small mouth gas tank and seat are original to the jeep. Best wishes; Leo

I have a few GPW “F” small mouth seat pan driver’s seats...I’ll dig them out and post my findings here over the weekend.

Re: Drivers Seat Fuel Tank Guard and screws.
Perhaps a bit late, but here are my findings.
GPW 17331 has its original seat with small gas tank opening in the seat base.
Alle mounting holes line up perfectly and there was no wooden filler used below the shield. Fitted with hex head bolts.
Mind you, the seat is very low over the present tank with little room to spare, but that can probably be attributed to the repro small mouth tank which may be sitting higher than the original.
When I got my vehicle it had a later (large mouth) tank fitted and the seat base was cut wider for the filler.
